Description of Proposed Borings at 23659 Santa Fe Avenue, Riverbank
Work is being performed to fulfill obligations under Regional Water Board case 392008 (Barrera's
Market—23659 Santa Fe Ave). Case was opened in 2016 when investigations associated with the nearby
(Former) Ranch Market at 23569 Santa Fe identified a potential historic release of petroleum at the
subject property during off-site downgradient investigation. The subject property reportedly housed a
fueling station in the 1920s though 1960s,and a case was opened at the subject site based on the
detection of contamination. The property owner was directed to investigate the release. Since the
owner did not cause the contamination, and the work needed to close the case is expected to be
minimal, the USEPA has identified this site for federal funding to address the outstanding requirements.
Redhorse is a contractor to the USEPA tasked with providing support to the State Water Board UST
program and will be implementing the scope of work that the Regional Water Board provided to address
closure requirements.
The additional investigation will consist of five borings, to evaluate shallow soil on site and groundwater
extending off-site, as described in email from the case worker included in this package. Four borings will
be advanced on the parcel and one on the adjacent parcel (entrance to the parking lot at the Jacob
Meyer Park). Borings will be grouted under inspections after sampling and surface repaired to match
surrounding grade. Soil and groundwater samples will be obtained and analyzed as described below:
Boring Depth Soil Sampling Groundwater Sampling
Depth Analysis Depth Analysis
(ft bgs) (ft bgs) (ft bgs)
5 & 10 TPHg,TPHd, BTEX, MTBE,
1 25 naphthalene, PAHs
15, 20, 25 TPHg,TPHd, BTEX, MTBE -- --
2 —35 5 & 10 TPHg,TPHd, BTEX, MTBE, —35 TPHg,TPHd,
naphthalene, PAHs BTEX, MTBE
3 ^35 5 & 10 TPHg,TPHd, BTEX, MTBE, TPHg,TPHd,
4 naphthalene 35 BTEX, MTBE
5 ^'35 -- -- ^35
TPHg,TPHd,
BTEX, MTBE
