I
COMIM
Project Health and Safety Plan
E N G ,N E E R,N G Martin Metals Finishing Inc. (Former)
Stockton, California
5 HAZARD ASSESSMENT
This section discusses the chemical, physical, and environmental hazards that workers may be exposed
to while performing project tasks. The SHSO and HSPM shall monitor Site activities for not previously identified
hazards and update this HSP accordantly.
5.1 Job Safety Analyses
Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) are provided for the activities anticipated during the project. These JSAs
outline the potential hazards associated with project tasks and provide controls to implement to ensure safety and
health in the field. JSAs are included in Appendix A of this HSP for the following activities:
• Field Sampling,
• Drilling and Well Destruction,
• Hazardous Materials Handling, and
• Work Inside a 6-ft Distance Zone.
5.2 Physical Hazards
The following physical hazards may be encountered at the Site:
• Heat and Cold Stress: Work is anticipated to take place in summer or fall 2022 at various
locations throughout the Site. Work will be performed outdoors during the summer or fall, and
workers may wear protective clothing, which can contribute to heat illness in hot temperatures.
Cold stress is also possible while working if excessive wind or precipitation is encountered.
• Heavy equipment operation: Contractors, subcontractors or Client personnel may work in the
vicinity of vehicles or industrial equipment in the FIP property.
• Lifting heavy objects: Field sampling activities may require moving small containers and lifting
hand-held equipment.
• Falling Objects: Work near to cranes or beneath other overhead hazards could expose
employees to falling objects.
• Use of Hand and Power Tools: Other than low energy devices associated with sampling, it is
not expected that CDIM or subcontractor staff will use hand tools. Concrete coring equipment, if
required, will be in good condition and maintained per manufacturer's recommendations.
• Hazardous Energy: Electrical work is not anticipated. Hazardous energy could possibly result
from CDIM or subcontractor use of small hand tools or contractors use of equipment. Use of
compressed gas or other high energy materials is not anticipated.
• Fire Hazards: Fires could result from use of fuel, electrical energy, lightening, smoking or other
natural or construction related activities.
• Noise: Operation of machinery may result in high levels of noise. Hearing protection should be
worn in these situations.
• Repetitive Stress: Routine activities at the project may involve tasks that, by their nature, may
subject personnel to unexpected repetitive stresses.
• Sharp objects: Scrap metal, plastic, or wood may be encountered.
• Slips, trips, and falls: Wet, uneven surfaces may be present at the Site as field work activities
are conducted. Care should be taken on the banks of Mormon Slough.
CDIM—Fairgrounds Industrial Park Page 8
