Well Destruction Work Plan — Addendum
LOPEZ PROPERTY — TAYLOR
1601 Turnpike Road, Stockton, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION
At the request of Ms. Karen Taylor, AdvancedGeo, Inc. (AGI) has prepared this Well
Destruction Work Plan — Addendum (Work Plan) for the destruction of the thirteen (13)
ozone sparging wells (0-1 through 0-13) at 1601 Turnpike Road, Stockton, California
(site). Structures, soil borings and well locations are illustrated on the attached site plan.
AGI is requesting drilling permit modification approval from San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) to destroy all former ozone sparging points
using wireline explosives in place of tradition auger drilling techniques. This change is
scope is being requested due to the large grout columns and the 3/4-inch well casing that
was used to install the ozone sparge points, which will likely cause traditional auger drilling
to veer off the original boring trace. The proposed destruction method is more cost
effective and will properly remove each of the proposed wells.
2.0. PROCEDURES
AGI proposes to destroy wells 0-1 through 0-13 using wire-line explosives. Well
abandonment by wire-line explosives will be conducted by certified explosives expert
Tylor McMillan of Well Services of Bakersfield, California. Initially, a cord of 50-grain
Special wire-line explosives will be deployed down the entire length of the well casing to
depths between 32 (shallow) and 66 feet bsg (intermediate). The explosives will be
brought up to 10-feet below surface grade. Once the explosives are in place, the entire
casing will be filled with the grout mixture as described below. Once filled, the charges
will be detonated; SJCEHD and AGI staff will verify that the grout mixture has dispersed
into the surrounding formation. The remaining space, following formation shrinkage, will
be filled with the grout mixture to near surface grade. The wells will then be over-drilled
to approximately ten feet bsg using 8.25-inch diameter augers and then grout will be used
to fill the boring to near surface ("mushroom cap").
All borings will be completely covered with either concrete or asphalt, depending on the
surrounding surface material. The grout mixture will consist of a ratio of six gallons water
for every 94-pound sack of Portland type II cement. The drill rig hollow stem augers will
be utilized as a tremie pipe for installation of the grout seal.
Rinseate generated during drilling and decontamination activities will be containerized in
properly labeled Department of Transportation (D.O.T.)-approved 55-gallon drums and
stored on-site until proper disposal is arranged to a suitable non-hazardous waste facility.
Additionally, soil cuttings, well materials and construction waste will be containerized in
