Copyright © 2025 Dameron Hospital <br />1. Assemble equipment: <br />a. See above list. <br />b. Medical waste is to be transported only in the approved cart. <br />2. Proceed to work area: <br />a. Take tipper cart to area where medical waste is to be picked up. <br />. K .place autoclave liner in cart and secure corners so that the liner does not fall into <br />a. Place tipper cart by the isolation room. The Environmental Services Aide in the <br />area will place the tied off bags of medical waste into the tipper cart. <br />lf the waste aful1 sharps container be sure that the protective cover is closed <br />K—1._j <br />Do not allow the medical waste liners or sharps containers to be overfilled. <br />d. Lift medical waste liners or sharps containers so that there is no contact with your <br />body. <br />e. Do not overload the tipper cart. <br />4. Transport tipper cart to medical waste holding area: <br />a. Always close and lock the cover when transporting. <br />b. Move quietly and cautiously. <br />c. If several of the tipper carts are hooked together, use caution when navigating the <br />corridors. <br />d. Do not overexert yourself in moving the tipper cart. <br />5. Dispose of medical waste: <br />a. Open the tipper cart and pull up on the autoclave bag. Secure the autoclave bag by <br />tying together all corners. No openings are allowed. Place autoclave tape across <br />the top of the bag. <br />b. Close, but do not lock the lid. Leave the tipper cart in the medical waste storage <br />IV. Safety Precautions: <br />1 Wear utility gloves when handling medical waste. <br />2. Never transport medical waste in same cart with regular waste. <br />3. Never transport medical waste in the same cart with soiled linen. <br />4. The medical waste storage area must be locked at all times when not in use. <br />5. Keep transport cart clean.
