North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Page 15 6.0 Description of Potential Pollutant Sources North County Landfill is a permitted Class III non-hazardous municipal solid waste landfill. The site’s waste management unit covers approximately 185 acres within the total facility acreage of approximately 320 acres. The facility has four main buildings, which include: • Recycling Center Building (approx. 66,450 square feet); • Office / Maintenance Building (approx. 10,275 square feet) • Water Pump House Building (approx. 685 square feet); and • Scale House (approx. 450 square feet) 6.1 Narrative Descriptions The following summarizes, in narrative form, the various potential pollutant sources. Table 8.3 gives a tabulated overview of this information. 6.1.1 Industrial Processes The following is a list of industrial processes at the North County Landfill: Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Activities associated with this process include fueling, parking, parts replacement, changing of vehicle fluids, vehicle and equipment washing, equipment storage, and repair. Maintenance activities occur predominately under canopied areas or within the maintenance building. The materials in this process include the following: • Antifreeze. • Detergents. • Lead acid batteries. • Sludge / wastewater (wash pad). • Diesel fuel. • Gasoline. • Waste absorbent and oily debris. • Used oil. • New motor oil. • Hydraulic oil. • Waste oil filters. • Brake and transmission fluids. • Brake pads and linings. • Paints and solvents. • Oily equipment / grease; and • Waste tires.
