North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill <br />Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Page 15 <br />6.0 Description of Potential Pollutant Sources <br />North County Landfill is a permitted Class III non-hazardous municipal solid waste landfill. <br />The site’s waste management unit covers approximately 185 acres within the total facility <br />acreage of approximately 320 acres. <br /> <br />The facility has four main buildings, which include: <br />• Recycling Center Building (approx. 66,450 square feet); <br />• Office / Maintenance Building (approx. 10,275 square feet) <br />• Water Pump House Building (approx. 685 square feet); and <br />• Scale House (approx. 450 square feet) <br />6.1 Narrative Descriptions <br />The following summarizes, in narrative form, the various potential pollutant sources. Table <br />8.3 gives a tabulated overview of this information. <br />6.1.1 Industrial Processes <br />The following is a list of industrial processes at the <br />North County Landfill: <br /> <br />Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Activities <br />associated with this process include fueling, parking, <br />parts replacement, changing of vehicle fluids, vehicle <br />and equipment washing, equipment storage, and repair. <br />Maintenance activities occur predominately under <br />canopied areas or within the maintenance building. The <br />materials in this process include the following: <br />• Antifreeze. <br />• Detergents. <br />• Lead acid batteries. <br />• Sludge / wastewater (wash pad). <br />• Diesel fuel. <br />• Gasoline. <br />• Waste absorbent and oily debris. <br />• Used oil. <br />• New motor oil. <br />• Hydraulic oil. <br />• Waste oil filters. <br />• Brake and transmission fluids. <br />• Brake pads and linings. <br />• Paints and solvents. <br />• Oily equipment / grease; and <br />• Waste tires. <br />Figure 1 - Storage area for oil, grease, and other maintenance fluids <br />Figure 2 - Fueling area on the wash pad <br />under a covered structure
