Existing and Proposed Septic Tank Usage Existing Septic System A septic system is currently located on the Site to serve the existing house (Plates 2 and 3). Proposed Septic System A new septic system will be constructed for the proposed new home (Plate 2). On-Site Septic Permit History The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department septic permit files were searched for the Site address; one permit was identified. The permit, dated March 1959, was for a new residential septic system utilizing an 800-gallon septic tank and two 60-foot leach lines. It has been included in Appendix 4 of this report. Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity To estimate the septic system usage in the area, our office counted septic systems that exist within approximately one square mile surrounding the property. Air photo imagery from Google Earth was used, as well as municipal sewer districts presented on the San Joaquin County District Viewer. Each building cluster on the photo not located within a known sewer district was assumed to have one septic system. Using this method, it is estimated that at least 72 septic systems per square mile are located in the immediate vicinity of the Site. The Site is located in a small rural residential neighborhood located within a larger residential subdivision; most of the subdivision receives municipal services. To the south is a former gravel pit. Septic Permit History in the Vicinity Based on a review of septic permits on file at the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department for nearby properties, most septic systems in the area utilize leach lines or leach lines with sumps; one permit indicated a filter bed system. The septic permits can be found in Appendix 4 of this report. Expected On-Site Maximum Septic Tank Usage Maximum expected usage on the Site would be from the current and future residents of the Site.
