Phase II Sampling and Analysis Plan SOP-5—Equipment Decontamination <br /> Port of Stockton-Rail and Bridge,Stockton,CA FN <br /> 5.1 Start-Up Activities <br /> 5.1 .1 Office <br /> The FTL will confirm that sufficient equipment and supplies are available at the site based on the <br /> number of samples and estimated field days. <br /> 5.1 .2 Field <br /> After arrival on site, but prior to commencement of operations, the FTL will confirm that <br /> decontamination supplies and equipment are available on site and review procedures with field staff. <br /> 5.2 Field Operations <br /> 5.2.1 Decontamination Procedures <br /> The required decontamination procedure for large pieces of equipment such as drill rigs, auger <br /> flights, and drilling and well casing is: <br /> 1. Wash the external surface of equipment or materials with high pressure hot water and <br /> Alconox or equivalent, and scrub with brushes, if necessary, until all visible dirt, grime, <br /> grease, oil, loose paint, rust flakes, etc., have been removed from the equipment. <br /> 2. Air dry. <br /> 3. Decontamination wastewater will remain at the site and be analyzed prior to final disposition <br /> according to the work plan <br /> The required decontamination procedure for sampling equipment is: <br /> 1. Wash and scrub with Alconox solution (or equivalent) and nylon brushes. <br /> 2. Double tap water rinse. <br /> 3. Collect decontamination rinse water in 5 gallon buckets. Rinse water will be combined with <br /> other wastewater generated during sampling activities and managed according to the work <br /> plan. <br /> 5.2.2 Equipment Rinsate Collection <br /> When non-dedicated sampling equipment is used, the equipment will be decontaminated before <br /> initial use and after each sample is collected. At least one equipment rinsate will be collected for <br /> each sampling protocol daily. In the event samples will be analyzed for PFAS, the rinsate blank <br /> should be collected in between borings where soils to be analyzed for PFAS are collected. <br /> Equipment rinsate samples will be collected to be representative of field decontamination <br /> procedures. <br /> 5-2 <br />
