Existing and Proposed Septic Tank Usage
Existing Septic System
A septic system is currently located on the Site to serve the house (Plate 2).
Proposed Septic System
A new septic system will be constructed for the proposed new house.
On-Site Septic Permit History
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department septic permit files were
searched for the Site address; one permit was identified. The permit, dated November
1996, was for a new residential septic system. The system utilized a 1,600-gallon
septic tank and four 80-foot leach lines. The permit has been included in Appendix 4 of
this report.
Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity
To estimate the septic system usage in the area, our office counted septic systems that
exist within approximately one square mile surrounding the property. Air photo imagery
from Google Earth was used. Each building cluster on the photo was assumed to have
one septic system. Using this method, it is estimated that at least 86 septic systems per
square mile are located in the immediate vicinity of the Site. Suburban neighborhoods
that receive municipal sewer service were excluded from the count.
The Site is located in a mixed agricultural, rural residential, and suburban area. The
nearby properties are single-family suburban residences, rural residences, and
orchards.
Septic Permit History in the Vicinity
Based on a review of septic permits on file at the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department for nearby properties, most septic systems in the area utilize leach
lines or leach lines with sumps. The septic permits can be found in Appendix 4 of this
report.
Expected On-Site Maximum Septic Tank Usage
Maximum expected usage on the Site would be from the current and future residents of
the Site. Septic system design should be based on the San Joaquin County On-Site
Wastewater Treatment Systems Standards (2017) or other engineering
recommendations.
LOGE 2618 Page 2
