The worker is to lift the sack to his/her back <br /> from a platform: <br /> • Move the sack to the edge of the platform. <br /> • Put back against the sack. <br /> • Grasp with both hands on the upper corners of the sack. <br /> • Ease the sack onto the back, bending hips and knees before taking the <br /> weight. <br /> • Keeping the back straight, stand up, straighten hips and knees and stabilize <br /> the sack. <br /> • Move away without bending sideways. Reproduced with the <br /> permission of CCOHS,2013. <br /> 4.9.4 Two-person handling of a sack: <br /> • Position one person on either side of the sack. <br /> • Squat with one foot balancing behind the sack. ^` <br /> • Keeping the back straight, grasp with the outer hand on the upper corner ' <br /> of the sack and the other hand holding the bottom of the sack. ;Al <br /> • On one person's command: - <br /> o Stand up and straighten the hips and knees. <br /> o Move toward the Intended location. <br /> o Put the sack in its intended location. <br /> Reproduced with the <br /> 4.10 Specific Handling—Sheet Materials permission of CCOHS,2013. <br /> 4.10.1 When lifting sheet materials: <br /> • Stand close to the pile of sheets in a walking stance. <br /> • Grasp sheet firmly at the midpoint of its long side with the closer hand. <br /> • Pull sheet up and toward the body. <br /> • Change grip using the other hand and put fingers on top of the sheet. <br /> • Pull sheet up to the vertical position and to the side until one half is off the pile. <br /> • Grasp the lower edge of the sheet with the free hand and support the hand by placing it on <br /> your knee. <br /> • Stand up without bending or twisting body. <br /> 4.10.2 Whenever moving sheet materials, be cognizant of wind conditions. <br /> 4.10.3 To carry sheets(drywall, glass, metal, etc.): <br /> • Use drywall carts or sheet hand trucks to carry sheet materials. <br /> • Get help from another person where carts are not available. <br /> • Apply carrying handles for manual carrying. <br /> • Always use gloves and carrying handle for glass and other materials with sharp edges. <br /> 4.10.4 Use team lifting and carrying where other solutions are inappropriate. <br /> • Remember that the combined strength of the team is less than the sum of individual strength. <br /> The item lifted by the team should be no more than 50 pounds(22.7kg). <br /> Manual Lifting(S3AM-014-PR1) <br /> Revision 2 July 31,2019 <br /> PRINTED COPIES ARE UNCONTROLLED.
