Cleanup in Vulnerable Communities'Initiative Discovery Project Reference:Favorite Cleaners <br /> and Enforcement Discovery Investigation Work Plan Project Number:60688620 <br /> air sampling event,the samples should be collected during normal operation of the building's heating and air <br /> conditioning system with door and windows closed as much as possible. <br /> • Extra canisters, pressure gauges, and flow regulators should be taken into the field in case the integrity of some <br /> of the canisters are compromised, or if some flow regulators and pressure gauges malfunction. Each sampling <br /> canister should have a dedicated vacuum gauge. Flow regulators should be configured to produce a constant <br /> sampling rate. Sampling canisters, along with all flow regulators and pressure gauges, should be 6-liter, <br /> individually certified clean, passivated canisters and gauges and analyzed using USEPA Method TO-15 SIM, <br /> reported down to the laboratory's method detection limit(MDL). <br /> When sampling indoor air, ambient(outdoor)air should be sampled concurrently. PID readings will be collected from <br /> the outdoor ambient air sampling locations. The following should be considered when collecting outdoor ambient air <br /> samples: <br /> • When deploying samplers outdoors to quantify background conditions,the samplers should be protected <br /> against rainfall and direct sunlight, both of which could bias the sampling results. <br /> • Sampling devices should be located approximately 6 feet off of the ground. <br /> • Outdoor ambient air sampling should be conducted concurrently with the indoor air sampling. <br /> • Collection of outdoor ambient air samples should be located away from gasoline stations, automobiles, <br /> gasoline-powered engines,fuel and oil storage tanks, chemical storage areas, and dry-cleaning equipment. <br /> • Sampling devices should be placed at least 10 feet beyond a tree's drip line. <br /> • Outdoor ambient air samples collected on the predominately upwind side of a building should be placed at a <br /> distance equal to twice the height of the building. <br /> • Three outdoor ambient air samples(plus one duplicate), at a minimum, should be collected during each indoor <br /> air sampling event.The outdoor ambient air samplers should be placed around the building with respect to up, <br /> down, and cross the prevailing wind direction.This placement will account for changes in the wind direction <br /> throughout the day. <br /> • Outdoor ambient air samples will be collected in individually certified, 6-liter, stainless-steel, Summa®canisters. <br /> • Outdoor ambient air samples will be analyzed using USEPA Method TO-15 SIM, reported down to the <br /> laboratory's MDL. <br /> Applying these considerations,the following steps will be performed: <br /> 1. Prior to sampling, each canister will have its vacuum checked with a dedicated gauge, with the expected <br /> vacuum ranging from-28 to-29 inches of mercury(" Hg). If any canister differs from the others by 3" Hg or <br /> more,the canister will not be used, as the integrity of the canister may have been compromised. <br /> 2. Once the canisters are in place,the valve of the outdoor ambient air canister will be opened, and the start time <br /> and vacuum gauge reading will be recorded.This process is repeated for each other canister as quickly as <br /> possible. <br /> 3. Each outdoor ambient air canister will be equipped with an 8-hour flow regulator.After 8 hours, and when the <br /> pressure is at less than 8" Hg,the final time and vacuum will be recorded, and the valves will be closed at <br /> approximately the same time. <br /> 3.2.5.6 Field Quality Control Samples <br /> The field QC samples planned for this Discovery Investigation are equipment rinsate blanks and duplicates.These <br /> two(2)types of samples are discussed below. <br /> Field Equipment Rinsate Blanks(for groundwater sampling) <br /> Afield equipment rinsate blank is a sample that is prepared in the field by pouring de-ionized, distilled (for inorganics) <br /> or HPLC grade(for organics)water through and over cleaned sampling equipment.
