The following procedures will be employed to collect subsurface soil samples: <br /> 1. The appropriate PPE and air monitoring equipment will be used,as specified in the <br /> HASP(Appendix F). <br /> 2. Identify sample locations from the Work Plan and note the locations on DFRs or <br /> Site Plan by obtaining ties to physical features or using GPS. <br /> 3. Calibrate equipment as needed per specifications of the manufacturer. Equipment <br /> requiring calibration includes the PID, FID, and multi-parameter water quality <br /> meter <br /> 4. Set up an equipment cleaning station, and decontaminate equipment as described <br /> in Section 5 of this SOP. Use new, clean materials when decontamination is not <br /> appropriate (e.g., disposable gloves and dedicated drive points). Document the <br /> decontamination procedure in the DFRs. <br /> 5. Sampling will be conducted using DPT drilling. For DPT drilling, the drilling <br /> subcontractor will set up drill rig at location, drive the sampling tools to desired <br /> depth, and extract the sample for analysis. <br /> 6. An accurate log of drilling activities shall be kept. This log shall be kept in the <br /> DFRs and/or soil boring logs and shall include at a minimum,the following: <br /> • Time driller and drill rig arrive on site; <br /> • Type of drill rig and drill rig operator(s) contact information; <br /> • Time drilling begins; <br /> • Any delays in the drilling activities and the cause of such delays; <br /> • Time drillers go off site; <br /> • Down time (those periods when drilling activities cease due to equipment <br /> malfunctions, weather, and ordered stoppages); <br /> • Any sudden changes in drilling conditions; <br /> • Depth where water was encountered, water levels, and equilibration times; <br /> • The presence of visible non-aqueous phase liquids(NAPL)in samples or open <br /> borings; and <br /> • Depths where samples were collected. <br /> 4 <br />
