Kn ICLEINFELDER
March 5, 1993 KnotIVE
File 24-220152-D00 MAR 8 1993
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
Ms Linda Turkette
San Joaquin County Public Health Department
Environmental Health Division
P.O Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Proposed Remediation Update
San Joaquin County General Hospital
150 Hospital Road
French Camp, California
Dear Ms Turkette-
• Enclosed is the work plan amendment we discussed This amendment explains more fully the
hydrocarbon remediation by excavation proposed for the T2/T3 UST site at the San Joaquin
County General Hospital in French Camp, California As you witnessed, Kleinfelder installed
three groundwater monitoring wells in three of four borings in January 1993, and drilled four
additional soil borings in February 1993
The wells were triangulated around the location of the USTs to evaluate the groundwater
gradient Each of the wells was completed within approximately 10 feet of the USTs to assess
the potential that groundwater had been impacted by hydrocarbons released from the USTs
Two sets of depth to groundwater measurements indicate that the gradient is essentially flat
As is expected with flat gradients, the direction shifted between the two measurement dates
(south to west) The first set of water sample results indicates that groundwater has not been
impacted The second sampling round is scheduled for March 26, 1993 The destruction of
the three monitoring wells is discussed in this amendment. If the water samples collected on
March 26, 1993 contain constituents of concern, the well destruction schedule will be
reassessed
The analytical and field screening results indicate that petroleum hydrocarbons have impacted
approximately 1,000 cubic yards of soil near the UST location An additional 1,000 cubic
yards of non-impacted soil will need to be removed to access impacted soil Soil appears to be
impacted to a depth of nearly 30 feet below the west end of the tanks Impacted soil appears
to be present between the depths of approximately 15 to 23 feet outside a radius of
approximately 10 feet from the tanks
This work plan amendment summarizes the analytical results on which the remedial
recommendation is based, and presents Kleinfelder's verification sampling and excavated soil
disposition plan Based on our discussion, Klemfelder is currently planning to provide the
FWP3-2(1993) Page 1 of 2 24-220152-D00
Copy ri ht 1993 Kleinfelier Inc (
KLEINWrDl K 3077 Fite Circ e, Sacramento, CA 95827 (916) 366-1701
