(MM PEA Work Plan
Martin Metals Finishing Inc. (Former)
Stockton, California
4 FIELD OPERATIONS
Field work will be performed under the supervision of a California-registered professional geologist or civil
engineer.
4.1 Pre-Field Activities
Prior to conducting the field work, CDIM will visit the Site to mark the proposed boring locations and to
review the Site conditions prior to drilling. CDIM will contract with an underground utility
locating company to survey the proposed boring locations and to mark the location of any underground utilities
relative to those locations. CDIM will notify Underground Service Alert North a minimum of three business days
prior to commencing field activities. CDIM will also obtain a drilling permit if required from San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD).
4.2 Field Sampling
Figures 5 and 6 show proposed sample locations discussed below.
4.2.1 Storm Drain Condition Assessment
To investigate the condition of the storm drain pipe between the former MMF and the Mormon Slough,
CDIM will contract with a utility inspection company to perform a camera inspection of the storm drain from the
trench to the outfall. The video footage will be reviewed in an attempt to determine whether areas or trench pipe
separation or other deterioration exist. The subsurface sample locations may be adjusted based on the findings
of the condition assessment.
4.2.2 Sampling Locations and Intervals
This section outlines the planned sampling activities for the Site. Sample location rationale is outlined
below (Figures 5 and 6).
• MMF-TS-01 through MM-TS-03: assess concentrations of COPCs in sediment potentially
accumulated in the storm drain trench inside and just north of the MMF building, if feasible.
• MMF-VP-01 through MMF-VP-05: assess concentrations of COPCs in sub-slab soil vapor
beneath the MMF building.
• MMF-SS-01 through MMF-SS-05 and MMF-SV-01 through MMF-SV-05: assess concentrations
of COPCs in subsurface soil beneath the MMF building and provide an additional line of evidence
of soil vapor beneath the MMF building.
CDIM—Fairgrounds Industrial Park Page 10
