Water will be analyzed for
the general field parameters (temperature, pH, DO, ORP & EC) as well as TPH-g, BTEX,
MTBE, TBA,TBF, acetone, hexavalent chromium and iron as described above.
2.2 Proposed Soil Vapor Extraction Pilot Testing
A Vapor Extraction System (SVE) pilot test will be performed prior to the Ozone Sparge test.
The SVE, test will be conducted with portable equipment to reduce installation costs. The
SVE test will utilize the two vapor wells previously emplaced in the excavation back fill area
as described in the Plan (dated March 21, 2005). Extraction will be accomplished with a
small Rotron blower with capacity of approximately 100 cfm. Emission treatment will be
accomplished by use of two 55-gallon carbon units that will be recycled upon completion.
If needed, a permit will be obtained from San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control
District to operate SVE system before the operation of the system.
SVE system will be operated for approximately 24 to 48 hours prior to start of ozone
sparging. Air samples (one sample after 10 minutes of operation, one sample after 12 hrs, 24
hrs and one at the end ofd operation period) will be taken during this operation to analyze for
TPH-g, BTEX and MTBE. In addition, vacuum pressure measurements will be taken from
monitoring wells and observation wells surrounding the tank excavation pit (MW-2, 5 & 8;
OS-1, OW-1 &2).
The SVE system will not be operated during the sparging process. However, SVE system
will be operated for 24 hours after the completion of sparging period, and similarly three
samples will be collected to compare with the background samples to check for migration of
vapors by sparging and the feasibility of SVE system.
3.0 ASSESSMENT OF REMEDIAL EFFECTIVENESS
Groundwater samples will be collected as described in Sections 2.1 & 2.1.1 prior to, during
and after the ozone injection phase. GTI will analyze all the sample results at the end of pilot
testing period to assess the remedial effectiveness of ozone sparging.
Similarly, air sample results will be analyzed to evaluate the remedial effectiveness of the
SVE system.
