Dear Property Owner/City/County
Pacific Gas and Electric Company(PG&E) is planning to conduct some testing on the
natural gas pipeline that is located on or very near your property. The pipeline has been
in service for many years, and has continued to provide safe and reliable service to your
community. PG&E is required by Federal and State regulation to perform this testing.
The testing will be performed by our Contractor Mears Cpg under our supervision. The
testing involves placing a.probe in contact with the ground surface and taking readings of
the corrosion protection on the line, every ten feet. If the surface is soil (including grass,
dirt, etc.) the reading can be taken directly however if there is a hard surface, like
asphalt or concrete a small 7/8 inch diameter hole must be drilled through the asphalt or
concrete to get to soil. When drilling is required and after the"read" is taken, the hole is
plugged with an approved plug and crack sealer. This provides a waterproof repair for
the very small hole.
There are several miles of testing throughout your area and we are scheduling this test
throughout the months of June and October. The testing is scheduled from June 2006 thru
October 2006. If our pipeline runs through your property our contractor will need to
access the pipeline throughout your property. If this is the case someone from Mears Cpg
will be contacting you directly to schedule the testing that needs to be performed along
your property. If, however, the pipeline exists in the street then there will be no reason to
contact you further.
In the event you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Colin A. Macdonald
of Pacific Gas and Electric (707) 291-2878 or Ms. Sara Burke of Pacific Gas and Electric
(925) 324-2756. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Robert Fassett, Program Manager
System Integrity Department
Pacific Gas and Electric Company
