HAZARD MITIGATORS - SKIN ABSORPTION <br /> Applies to Task: [X O 00 0 ® 0 ® 0 ® 00 ❑ O <br /> • Be aware of chemicals of concern that can directly injure (corrode, burn, dehydrate) the <br /> skin or that can be absorbed into the bloodstream and subsequently transported to other <br /> organs from dust, liquid or vapor sources. <br /> • Know that: skin absorption is enhanced by abrasions, cuts, heat, and moisture. <br /> • Do not wear contact lenses in contaminated atmospheres (since they may trap chemicals <br /> against the eye; surface). The eye is particularly vulnerable because airborne chemicals <br /> can dissolve in its moist surface and be carried to the rest of the body through the <br /> bloodstream (capillaries are very close to the surface of the eye). <br /> • Keep hands away from face. <br /> • Minimize contact with liquid and solid chemicals. <br /> • Wear protective clothinge. <br /> ( g., suits and gloves) as specified by the Site Specific Health <br /> and Safety Plan. <br /> Skin Absorption—HazMit.doc Page 1 of 1 <br /> 8/6/2007 <br />
