October 15, 2007
MEMORANDUM
TO: Tom Gau, Chief Deputy Director
Development Services
FROM: Bill Dubois, Engineer III
Public Services
SUBJECT: (CALIFORNIA WATER COMPANY) REQUEST
FOR A WAIVER OF THE TRENCHING POLICY
ON VARIOUS STREETS IN THE ROSE TERRACE AREA
This memo is regarding a request from California Water Company for a waiver of the
San Joaquin County Department of Public Works trenching policy. California Water
Company is planning replace old water lines located in utility easements on the back of
the properties and place new 6"-8 " Dia. lines on various streets in the Rose Terrace area.
As the streets in that area were recently paved, our policy does not allow for new
pavement cuts. In order to mitigate for the trenching, California Water Service Company
will line saw-cut, grind and resurface one half of the road way on those streets that are
impacted by the work as indicated on the attached Vicinity Map &Trench Detail.
Pete Martin from Design Engineering, David Mendoza from Field Engineering, Tom
Okamoto from Traffic Engineering and Ron Rall from Utility Maintenance have
reviewed the encroachment application and concur with the work that is planned to be
performed in the Rose Terrace area.
My recommendation is to allow the applicant to place water lines as stated above
based on the proposed mitigation to grind and resurface the recently resurfaced roadway
to conform to the rest of the road. Any disturbed striping is to be replaced as it was before
the work was performed.
Approved by: G7
Attachments:
