2. Include all reinforcing steel as required by CRSI when not shown <br /> specifically on the Drawings or explicitly referred to in the Specifications. <br /> 3. Unless otherwise indicated, use concrete cover as shown on the <br /> Drawings. <br /> 4. Position reinforcing steel accurately and secure against displacement at <br /> intersections with tie wire and support by concrete or metal chairs, <br /> spacers or metal hangers. - <br /> 4. Support reinforcing steel on rock foundations with steel rods and pegs. <br /> 5. Unless otherwise indicated, do not place reinforcing steel on fresh <br /> concrete or force the steel into fresh concrete. <br /> 6. When moisture-proofing is used, support reinforcing steel or mesh with - <br /> small chairs designed with flat bases to protect the membrane at all <br /> times. <br /> C. Splicing: <br /> 1. Lap splice reinforcing steel as shown on the Drawings, or 24 inches if not <br /> shown. <br /> 2. In slabs, beams, girders, and walls subject to lateral pressure, do not - <br /> splice reinforcing steel in areas of maximum stress. <br /> 3. Stagger splices of adjacent bars. <br /> D. Cleaning: <br /> 1. Clean steel of mill rust scale, dried concrete, or other coatings that may <br /> reduce bond. <br /> 2. Reinforcement reduced in section is not acceptable. <br /> 3. Remove all debris in the placement area prior to concrete placement. <br /> 4. When concrete placement is delayed, special cleaning of reinforcement <br /> may be required by the Engineer. <br /> 3.02 TESTING _ <br /> A. To demonstrate conformance with the specified requirements for concrete <br /> reinforcement, the City may provide the services of an independent testing <br /> laboratory that complies with the requirements of ASTM E329. - <br /> B. The testing laboratory may sample and test concrete reinforcement and inspect <br /> welded rebar. - <br /> C.
