Section 51-1.12F,"Sealed Joints,"of the Standard Specifications is amended by adding the following paragraph: <br /> • The opening of the joints at the time of placing shall be that shown on the plans adjusted for temperature. Care shall <br /> be taken to avoid impairment of the clearance in any manner. <br /> The first paragraph in Section 51-1.12F, "Sealed Joints,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> • Where shown on the plans,joints in structures shall be sealed with joint seals,joint seal assemblies,or seismic joints <br /> in conformance with the details shown on the plans,the provisions in these specifications,and the special provisions. <br /> The fourth paragraph in Section 51-1.12F,"Sealed Joints,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> Joint seal assemblies and seismic joints shall consist of metal or metal and elastomeric assemblies which are <br /> anchored or cast into a recess in the concrete over the joint. Strip seal joint seal assemblies consist of only one joint cell. <br /> Modular unit joint seal assemblies consist of more than one joint cell. <br /> The fifth paragraph in Section 51-1.12F,"Sealed Joints,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> • The Movement Rating (MR) shall be measured normal to the longitudinal axis of the joint. The type of seal to be <br /> used for the MR shown on the plans shall be as follows: <br /> Movement Rating MR Seal T e <br /> MR<_ 15 mm Type A or Type B <br /> 15 mm<MR<_30 mm Type A(silicone only)or Type B <br /> 30min<MR<_50mm Type <br /> 50 mm<MR 5 100 mm Joint Seal Assembly(Strip Seal) <br /> MR> 100 mm Joint Seal Assembly(Modular Unit) <br /> or Seismic Joint <br /> The second paragraph in Section 51-1.12F(3)(b), "Type B Seal,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> • The preformed elastomeric joint seal shall conform to the requirements in ASTM Designation: D 2628 and the <br /> following: <br /> A. The seal shall consist of a multi-channel,nonporous,homogeneous material furnished in a finished extruded form. <br /> B. The minimum depth of the seal, measured at the contact surface, shall be at least 95 percent of the minimum <br /> uncompressed width of the seal as designated by the manufacturer. <br /> C. When tested in conformance with the requirements in California Test 673 for Type B seals,joint seals shall provide <br /> a Movement Rating(MR)of not less than that shown on the plans. <br /> D. The top and bottom edges of the joint seal shall maintain continuous contact with the sides of the groove over the <br /> entire range of joint movement. <br /> E. The seal shall be furnished full length for each joint with no more than one shop splice in any 18-m length of seal. <br /> F. The Contractor shall demonstrate the adequacy of the procedures to be used in the work before installing seals in the <br /> joints. <br /> G. Shop splices and field splices shall have no visible offset of exterior surfaces, and shall show no evidence of bond <br /> failure. <br /> H. At all open ends of the seal that would admit water or debris, each cell shall be filled to a depth of 80 mm with <br /> commercial quality open cell polyurethane foam,or closed by other means subject to approval by the Engineer. <br /> Section 51-1.12F(3)(c), "Joint Seal Assemblies,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> (c) Joint Seal Assemblies and Seismic Joints <br /> • Joint seal assemblies and seismic joints shall be furnished and installed in joints in bridge decks as shown on the <br /> plans and as specified in the special provisions. <br /> The eighth paragraph in Section 51-1.12H(l), "Plain and Fabric Reinforced Elastomeric Bearing Pads," of'the Standard <br /> Specifications is amended to read: <br /> Contract No. 10-OM7104 <br /> 31 <br />
