CALIFORNIA WATER SERVICE COMPANY STOCKTON DISTRICT
1550 W FREMONT ST •SUITE 100•STOCKTON, CA 952032660
1209) 547 7900 • FAX (209)4666155
County of San Joaquin 4/18/08
Department of Public Works
Attn: Encroachment Permit Department
Subject: 3836 Newton Road
On April 9, 2008, California Water Service Co. applied for an encroachment permit to
install an 8" fire service connection to serve a new building being constructed at 3836
Newton Road (Traylor Shea Precast Project). The Permit Department has since asked Cal
Water why we are asking to install this 8" fire service using an open trench cut instead of
a `bore' installation. This letter is to request a waiver to allow California Water Service
Co. to open trench cut across Newton Road for the following reasons:
1) Potholing of all utilities in Newton Road will become necessary to verify crossing
depth information. Doing this will create numerous patches of approximately 3'x
3' in size across the road, which aesthetically could look worse than one
continuous trench cut.
2) If a conflict with other utilities arises, this "bore" type of installation will not be
possible, thus causing delays and a possibility of the project being"shut down"do
to lack of fire protection during construction.
3) Boring a pipe of this size can become very expensive.
4) Approximately 2 years ago, Cal Water performed the same installation (open
trench)to provide fire service for 3516 Newton Rd. (Bobcat Central)
Your cooperation in modifying this encroachment permit to allow an open trench cut for
this 8" fire service installation would be greatly appreciated. If extra paving or slurry seal
is required for the open trench cut, please note this on the permit so that I can pass this
information along to the customer.
Sincerely,
wwL
Wayne Lechich
Distribution Superintendent
California Water Service Co.
Stockton District
0I612ICT OFFICES: ANTEIOFF V4LLE1 • RAKFRSFIELD• BAYSHORE•BEAR GULCH •CHICO• DIXON• FAST LOS ANGELES• KERN RIVER VALLEY •KING c_It(
LIVERMORt•SOS ALTOS•MARYSVIILE•OROIiW•RANCHO DOMINGUEL•REDWOOD VAIIE••SALINAS•SEIMA•STOCKTON•VISALIA•WES',AKt•WiI.<-
