Section 02210 <br /> EXCAVATION,BACKFILLING, AND COMPACTION FOR UTILITIES <br /> I. Buried Warning and Identification Tape <br /> Polyethylene plastic and metallic core or metallic-faced, acid-and alkali-resistant, <br /> polyethylene plastic warning tape shall be manufactured specifically for warning and <br /> identification of buried utility lines. Provide tape on rolls, 3 in. minimum width, color <br /> coded for the intended utility with a warning and identification imprinted in bold black <br /> letters continuously over the entire tape length. Warning and identification to read, <br /> "CAUTION,BURIED (intended service) LINE BELOW" or similar wording. Color and <br /> printing is to be permanent, unaffected by moisture or soil. <br /> 1. Warning Tape for Metallic Piping: Acid and alkali-resistant polyethylene plastic tape <br /> conforming to the width, color, and printing requirements indicated above. Minimum <br /> thickness of the tape shall be 0.003 in. Tape shall have a minimum strength of <br /> 1,500 psi lengthwise and 1,250 psi crosswise with a maximum 350% elongation. <br /> 2. Detectable Warning Tape for Non-Metallic Piping: Polyethylene plastic tape <br /> conforming to the width, color, and printing requirements indicated above. Minimum <br /> thickness of the tape shall be 0.004 in. Tape shall have a minimum strength of <br /> 1,500 psi lengthwise and 1,250 psi crosswise. The tape shall be manufactured with <br /> integral wires, foil backing, or other means of enabling detection by a metal detector <br /> when the tape is buried up to 3 ft deep. Encase the metallic element of the tape in a <br /> protective jacket or provide with other means of corrosion protection. <br /> PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 GENERAL . <br /> A. Control of Water <br /> The Contractor shall keep excavations free from water during construction. The static <br /> water level shall be drawn down a minimum of 3 ft below the bottom of excavations to <br /> maintain the undisturbed state of natural soils and allow the placement of any fill to the <br /> specified density. Disposal of water shall not damage property or create a public nuisance. <br /> The Contractor shall have on hand pumping equipment and machinery in good working <br /> condition for emergencies and shall have workers available for its operation. Dewatering <br /> systems shall operate continuously until backfill has been completed to 1 ft above the <br /> normal static groundwater level. The location of the Contractor's dewatering discharge <br /> shall be approved by the Regional Water Quality Control Board.
