Section 02210 <br /> EXCAVATION,BACKFILLING,AND COMPACTION FOR UTILITIES <br /> E. Location of Excavated Materials <br /> During trench excavation, place the excavated material only within the approved working <br /> area. Do not obstruct any roadways or streets unless specified otherwise. Conform to all <br /> Federal, State, and local codes governing the safe loading of all trenches with excavated <br /> material. Excess materials shall become the property of the Contractor and shall be hauled <br /> off-site to a site approved by the Construction Manager. <br /> F. Maintenance of Roadways <br /> All earthwork operations shall be performed in a manner which does not disrupt the <br /> continuous flow of traffic or, existing roadways. <br /> G. Finish Grading <br /> Finished surfaces shall be smooth, compacted and free from irregularities. The degree of <br /> finish shall be that normally obtainable with a blade-grader. <br /> Finished grade shall be as specified by the contours plus or minus 0.10 ft except where a <br /> local change in elevation is required to match sidewalks, curbs, manholes and catch basins, <br /> or to ensure proper drainage. Allowance for topsoil and grass cover, and subbase and <br /> pavement thickness shall be made so that the specified thickness of topsoil can be applied <br /> to attain the finished grade. <br /> Where the soil is to be cultivated, rocks larger than 2-1/2 in. in maximum dimension, roots <br /> and other debris on the surface of the slope shall be removed and properly disposed of. <br /> H. Trench Dams <br /> Trench dams shall be constructed of CDF along the entire pipeline alignment including the <br /> Walnut Grove Wastewater Treatment Plant site. The Contractor shall place a cut off trench <br /> dam of CDF across and along the trench every 100 feet to retard and resist the movement <br /> of groundwater through the trench granular bedding or backfill material. The trench dam <br /> shall be located within the barrel section between the first and second joints from the end <br /> of the pipeline. The trench dams shall be a minimum 24 inches in length, as measured <br /> along the pipe centerline and shall be keyed into the trench walls a minimum 12 inches <br /> into undisturbed soil, and from the trench subgrade or stone foundation a minimum of 12 <br /> inches into undisturbed soil as indicated in Sacramento County Standard Detail 7-16. The <br /> height of the trench dam shall be a minimum of 24 inches above the top of the pipe. <br /> 3.02 BEDDING <br /> Bedding shall be of the materials and depths as indicated for utility lines and utility line <br /> structures. Place bedding in 6 in. maximum loose lifts and compact.
