Section 02210 <br /> EXCAVATION,BACKFILLING,AND COMPACTION FOR UTILITIES <br /> C. Compaction of Backfill <br /> Except as noted otherwise on plans compact backfill material to 90% of ASTM D1557 <br /> maximum density. <br /> D. Pipelines and Conduits In Paved Areas <br /> Compact the upper 6 in. of trench backfill to 95% of ASTM D1557 maximum density. <br /> 3.06 SPECIAL EARTHWORK BACKFILL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS <br /> A. Mariiloies and other Appurtenances <br /> Provide at least 12 in. clear from outer surfaces to the embankment or shoring. Excavation <br /> shall be in accordance with Section 02220, EXCAVATION, BACKFILLING, AND <br /> COMPACTION FOR STRUCTURES. When directed, remove unstable soil that is <br /> incapable of supporting the structure to an overdepth of a minimum of 1 ft and refill with <br /> bedding to the proper elevation at the Construction Manager's direction. Removal of <br /> unstable material and refilling with bedding shall be paid for as extra work in accordance <br /> with the Standard Construction Specifications Section 9, CHANGES AND CLAIMS. <br /> B. Paved Areas <br /> Place backfill in 8 in. maximum loose lifts. Compact all backfill to 95% of ASTM D1557 <br /> maximum density. Backfill to permit the rolling and compacting of the completed <br /> excavation with the adjoining material, providing the specified density necessary to enable <br /> paving of the area immediately after backfilling has been completed. <br /> C. Obstructions <br /> Remove all obstructions encountered within the trench area or adjacent thereto.The <br /> Construction Manager may, if requested by the Contractor, make minor changes in trench <br /> alignment to avoid major obstructions, provided such alignment changes can be made <br /> without adversely affecting the intended function of the facility. The Contractor shall pay <br /> any additional costs resulting from such minor alignment changes. <br /> D. Pavement, Curb, and Sidewalk Removal <br /> Cut all bituminous and concrete pavements, regardless of the thickness, and all curbs and <br /> sidewalks, prior to excavation of the trenches with an approved pavement saw. <br /> Hydrohammers will be prohibited. Pavement shall be sawed completely through on neat <br /> lines parallel and equidistant from the trench centerline and a minimum of 6 in. wider on <br /> each side of the actual trench width.
