Section 02310 <br /> HORIZONTAL DIRECTIONAL DRILLING <br /> The entrance and exit mud pits shall be completely enclosed with hay bales or fiber rolls. <br /> No drilling fluids shall be allowed to run out of the mud pits. A minimum freeboard of one <br /> foot must be maintained at all times within the entrance and exit mud pits. <br /> The Contractor is responsible for procuring, transporting, and storing any water required for <br /> the operation. <br /> 3.04 DISPOSAL OF DRILLING FLUIDS AND CUTTINGS <br /> Disposal of excess drilling fluids and spoil shall be the responsibility of the Contractor and <br /> shall be conducted in compliance with all environmental regulations, right-of-way and <br /> workspace agreements, and permit requirements. Drilling fluid and spoil disposal <br /> procedures proposed for use shall be submitted to the Construction Manager for acceptance. <br /> No procedure may be used which has not been accepted by the Construction Manager. The <br /> Contractor shall be responsible for any fines incurred if these specifications are not followed <br /> and if improper disposal of materials occurs. <br /> Disposal of all materials (drilling mud, fluids and cuttings) requires analysis by the <br /> Contractor and approval by the Construction Manager. Contractor is responsible for <br /> sampling and testing every batch of disposed materials. <br /> All spoil materials generated from each of the pilot hole drilling shall be collected and <br /> stored on site in tanks or hauled to an off site storage area by the Contractor. Spoil materials <br /> generated during the reaming and pull back process can be collected and immediately <br /> hauled for disposal. The Contractor shall notify the Construction Manager a minimum of 24 <br /> hours in advance to coordinate the sampling and testing. The Contractor is responsible for <br /> all costs associated with the storage and handling of these materials for a maximum period <br /> of 72 hours from the time that they are deposited into a storage tank or truck, ready for <br /> shipment and written notification given to the Construction Manager, while the testing <br /> laboratory samples and tests the material and releases the material for shipment to the <br /> approved disposal site. <br /> The Contractor shall coordinate with the Construction Manager to prepare the proper non- <br /> hazardous shipping papers for the transport of the materials to the disposal site. The <br /> Contractor shall provide the Construction Manager with a copy of all shipping papers <br /> showing receipt and acceptance of the drillers mud by the disposal facility.
