For New Hope Bridge
We are asking for permission to permanently mount an acoustic doppler current meter on the
south east piling at New Hope Bridge on West Walnut Grove Road, approximately 3.25 miles
west of 1-5. (See photo 1, point 1.) The Doppler will be mounted to the piling in a similar way
to the one depicted in photo 2. It will be attached with % stainless steel lag bolts. We will pre-
drill the holes and fill the hole with Henry's roofing cement before installing the lag screws. The
installation will be done from the water by boat and will not interfere with vehicle traffic in any
way.
The instrument will communicate through a 12 volt DC cable to a data logger to be housed in
the California Department of Water Resources gage house that is located on the east bank,
adjacent to the piling. For this we will install a 1 inch gray PVC conduit down one leg of the
pylon to the river bottom and then up the levee to the gage house.
We hope to install this equipment during the first week of December 2010. If you have any
question or need further clarification, please call me at 916-826-4519.
Jim George
L
Hydrological Technician
US Geological Survey
1280 Terminal Street
West Sacramento, Ca 95691
jegeorge@usgs.gov
Cell (916) 826 4519
