Holes
Holes shall be seven-sixteenths plus or minus one sixty-fourth inches diameter on one(1)inch centers,on all four sides for the entire length
of the post,or as noted in drawings. On square tubing, the holes shall be on the centerline of each side in true alignment and opposite to
each other directly and diagonally. On rectangular tubing, holes shall be on the narrow side only. All posts shall be cut in such a manner to
insure hole alignment between Anchors and Sleeves when driven into the ground.
E. Length
The length of each post shall be as specified and have a permissible length tolerance of
plus or minus '/4'. Typical lengths shall be 1', 1 '/2',2 '/', 10' and 12'.
F. Telescopic Properties
The finished posts shall be straight and shall have a smooth uniform finish. It shall be possible to telescope all consecutive sizes of square
tubes freely and for not less than ten feet of their length without the necessity of matching any particular face to any other face. All holes
and ends shall be free from burrs and ends shall be cut square.
G. Torsion Resistance
I
Supports shall be of sufficient size to support the sign panel. Signs on single supports shall resist the effect of eccentric wind force. A
support member 10 feet long shall not rotate more than 2 degrees when test loaded with 50 foot-pounds(600 inch-pounds)torque on one
end while the other end is firmly held against rotation. A suggested method of testing torsion resistance is illustrated by attachment
TorsionResistance Test.
H. Tolerances
Tolerances on outside sizes
Outside Tolerance At
Nominal Outside Dimensions All Sides At Corners
2"x 2" Plus or minus .008"
Note: Measurement for outside dimensions shall be made at least 2"from the end of
the tube.
