Chip Seal must be placed imsngle layer on existing or prepared asphalt concrete -pavement surface. No Chip <br />seal is allowed on existing bridge deck and Portland Cement Concrete surfaces including pavement, railroad <br />crossing, etc. <br />2. Existing center line and edge line rumble strips must not be chipped over through out the project. <br />3. Screenings must have fine gradation of 4" maximum . <br />4. One week prior to the start of work, the Contractor must furnish to the Engineer a schedule showing <br />proposed street closures on each half-day basis. No work will commence until this schedule is approved by <br />the Engineer. <br />S. All intersection radii within project limits must be sealed to existing edge of pavement, face of dike or lip of <br />curb and gutter. <br />6. Before Chip Seal is to be applied to any area, the Contractor must protect all utility covers, including but not <br />limited to maintenance holes, water valves and survey monument frames and covers. Contractor must <br />remove; protective covers after Chip Seal. Full compensation will be considered as included in the unit; price <br />for Chip Seal item of work. <br />7. Surface preparation work must be as directed by the Engineer. Locations and dimensions of pavement repair <br />will be determined by the Engineer and must be placed 18 hours prior to placing Chip Seal. <br />8. The Contractor is to remove and dispose all existing Thermoplastic Traffic Stripes and Pavement Markings in <br />all areas. The cost for this work is to be included in the contract prices paid for Remove Thermoplastic Traffic <br />Stripes and Pavement Markings item of work, and no additional compensation will be allowed therefore. <br />9. The Contractor must perform street sweeping throughout the duration of the chip Seal operations of the <br />project per the specifications. Full compensation for these sweeping operations must be considered as <br />included in the contract unit price paid for Chip Seal item of work and no separate payment will be made <br />therefore. <br />10. The Contractor must perform Chip Seal operations only on weekends on streets where schools are situated or <br />unless allowed by written approval from the Engineer. The Contractor must not begin Chip Sealing a street <br />after 1:00 pm without the approval from the Engineer. Speed bumps must not be Chip Sealed, <br />11. Areas in County right-of-way used by Contractor for taging and/or storage of materials will be approved:by <br />The Engineer. The areas utilized by the Contractor for staging and/or storage area must be restored to their <br />original condition. Any damages or unclean conditions to staging or storage areas must be repaired at the <br />Contractor's own expense. It will be the Contractor's responsibility toj obtain permission from the property <br />owner to stage equipment or store materials on private property. The Contractor must provide a letter of <br />release from the property owner of the areas utilized for staging and/or storage of materials. <br />13. The Contractor must enter into an Agreement with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, Central- <br />ralifnrnia Trnrtinn ('mmnanv and I Ininn Parifir Railroad for anv:work within the Railroads' rieht-of wav: See <br />SECTION `5-1.20C Railroad Relations of the Specifications <br />for further details. <br />14. Full compensation of all pothole repair, on all roads within project limits, will be considered as included in the <br />unit price for Crack Treatment (Type 3) item of work. <br />15. Lower Sacramento Road (West lahant Road to 600" South of Woodson Road & 600' North(of Collier Road to <br />Sacramento County Limits), Peltier Road'QEiliott Road to Tully Road) and Tracy Boulevard (Lammers Road to <br />south 1 mile east) will receive crack seal treatment only and no chip seal <br />16. Temporary reflective raised markers must be placed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, <br />unless instructed differently by the engineer. Temporary reflective raised pavement markers must be <br />cemented to the surfacing with the adhesive recommended by the manufacturer, except epoxy adhesive <br />must not be used. In addition, these markers must be nailed to the pavement to assist in holding them in <br />place. Washers must be used to keep the nails from pulling through the markers. <br />17. The Contractor must post "No Parking - Tow Away" signs at 100 foot intervals on the street(s) to be worked <br />upon, at least 48 hours prior to placing the Chip Seal. These signs must state the day of the week and hours <br />of no parking. <br />18. "Loose Gravel" signs and "Speed Limit 25mph" signs will also be required, alternately, at the beginning of the <br />work and at each intersection on both sides of the road. At no time will there be more than 1,500 feet <br />between such warning signs. "Loose Gravel" signs must be placed on each side street a minimum of 50 feet <br />prior to the intersection where such gravel has been placed. <br />19.
