PCC Curb & Gutter <br />(Where exists) <br />1 <br />SHOULDER DETAIL <br />With Curb & Gutter <br />GENERAL NOTES TYPICAL SECTION <br />1. Chip seal must be placed in a single layer on existing or prepared asphalt concrete <br />pavement surface. Chip seal is not allowed on existing bridge decks or Portland <br />Cement Concrete surfaces including pavement, railroad crossings, etc. <br />2. Aggregate must have fine gradation of i" maximum. <br />3. Two weeks prior to the start of work, furnish to the Engineer a schedule showing <br />proposed street closures on each half—day basis. No work will commence until this <br />schedule is approved by the Engineer. <br />4. All intersection radii within project limits must be sealed to existing edge of pavement, <br />face of dike or lip of curb and gutter. <br />5. Before chip seal is to be applied to any area, protect all utility covers, including, but <br />not limited to: maintenance holes, water valves and survey monument frames and <br />covers. Remove protective covers after completing the chip seal operation. Full <br />compensation for said work must be considered as included in the contract unit price <br />for various items of work and no separate payment will be made therefor. <br />6. Surface preparation work must be as directed by the Engineer. Locations and <br />dimensions of Pavement Repair will be determined by the Engineer and must be placed <br />18 hours prior to placing chip seal. <br />7. Remove and dispose of all existing Thermoplastic Traffic Stripes and Pavement Markings <br />in all project areas. The Contractor is responsible for verifying the quantities within the <br />Project's limits of work. See Plan sheet 5 for locations and quantities. <br />8. Perform street sweeping throughout the duration of the chip seal operations of the <br />project per the specifications. Full compensation for these sweeping operations must be <br />considered as included in the contract unit price paid for various items of work and no <br />separate payment will be made therefor. <br />9. Unless allowed by written approval from the Engineer, chip seal operations on or in <br />close proximity to streets where schools are situated must occur on the weekend or <br />when school is not in session. <br />10. Unless allowed by written approval from the Engineer, cease all chip seal operations at <br />1:00 pm. <br />Existing Roadway <br />SHOULDER DETAIL <br />Without Curb & Gutter <br />11. Place Monument Frame and Cover at various locations, see Summary of Quantities for <br />locations. <br />12. Areas proposed for staging and/or storage of materials within the County right—of—way <br />require written approval from the Engineer. The areas utilized staging and/or storage <br />area must be restored to their original condition. Any damages or unclean conditions <br />to staging or storage areas must be repaired at the Contractor's own expense. Obtain <br />permission from the property owner to stage equipment or store materials on private <br />property. Provide the Engineer a letter of release from the property owner of the <br />areas utilized for staging and/or storage of materials. <br />13. Traffic delays due to construction operations must not exceed 10 minutes, or J mile of <br />vehicle queue, whichever occurs first. <br />14. The Contractor must perform final roadway sweeping operations on all chip sealed roads <br />fifteen (15) working days after application. All sweeping operations within or adjacent <br />to a travel lane require traffic control. <br />15. Removal and disposal of existing monument frames and covers will be required at <br />locations as stated (Replace) on the Summary of Quantities sheet for Place Monument <br />Frame and Cover. Payment for removal and disposal of existing monument frames and <br />covers will be considered as included in the contract unit price paid for Place <br />Monument Frame and Cover. <br />16. The Contractor must obtain an Encroachment Permit from the County of Sacramento, <br />the City of Lodi and Caltrans for placement for performing traffic control or placing <br />traffic control devices (or performing work) in their jurisdiction(s). Payment for this will <br />be considered to be included in the various items of work involved. <br />17. The Contractor must enter into an Agreement with the CCTC RR and BNSF RR Railroads <br />for any work within the Railroad's right—of—way.
