GENERAL NOTES <br />1. Prior to commencing any work, it shall be the contractor's responsibility to <br />have each utility company locate in the field their main and service lines. The <br />contractor shall notify the members of the Underground Service Alert (U.S.A) <br />48 hours in advance of performing excavation work, sign relocation work by <br />calling the toll—free number 1-800-227-2600. <br />2. The Contractor shall field verify all utility locations and depths. Water and gas <br />valves are shown at approximate locations on plans. It shall be the <br />Contractor's sole responsibility to protect all existing utilities, so that no <br />damage results to them during the performance of this contract. The <br />contractor shall be required to cooperate with other contractors and utility <br />companies installing new structures, utilities, and services to the project. <br />3. Existing drainage facilities, water valves, frames and covers, water meters, <br />trees, shrubs, curb, gutter and sidewalk shall remain in place unless otherwise <br />noted on the Plans. <br />4. All storm drain inlets shall be protected from liquid runoff sediment and <br />chemical pollutant in a manner consistent with the requirements of the <br />National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Construction <br />Permit. <br />5. Part Circle Driveway Culverts at driveways are to remain in place unless <br />otherwise directed by the Engineer. Steel Plating at driveways are to be <br />removed prior to planing and placed back after paving completion. The cost of <br />removing and placing back steel plating is to be included in the Planing <br />Asphalt Pavement item of work. <br />6. Contractor is to plane all Asphalt Concrete Pavement adjacent to Gutter lip to <br />a depth of 0.10' or 0.25' below the gutter lip. Refer to LONGITUDINAL PLANING <br />DETAILS on Sheet 5. Hand Grinding of Asphalt Concrete Pavement will be <br />required at locations where water valves and maintenance holes are within the <br />planing limits and around the lip of gutter at drain inlet locations. Payment <br />for Hand Grinding shall be considered as included in the contract unit price <br />paid for Planing Asphalt Concrete Pavement. <br />7. All improvements within the Minor Concrete (Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk) work <br />limits shall be saw cut or removed to the limits shown on the Plans. Payment <br />for this shall be considered as paid for under the Minor Concrete (Curb, <br />Gutter and Sidewalk) item of work. <br />8. Concrete driveways or walkways needing to conform to new back of walk <br />elevations within the Minor Concrete (Driveway) work limits shall be saw cut or <br />removed to the limits shown on the Plans. Replaced driveway section at Sta <br />6+75 (Rt) shall match existing color, texture and finish. Payment for this shall <br />be considered as paid for under the Minor Concrete (Driveway) item of work. <br />9. At locations where new Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk conforms to existing, the <br />Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk shall be constructed with a doweled expansion joint. <br />10. Provide 6' transition length between existing and newly installed rolled curb, <br />gutter and sidewalk. <br />12. Sprinkler relocation as required for concrete work will be done by Contractor <br />prior to sidewalk work. Payment for this shall be considered as included in the <br />Minor Concrete (Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk) item of work. <br />13. Contractor shall place detectable warning surfaces at locations within the <br />project limits where Curb Ramps exist without detectable warning surfaces. The <br />cost for this item is to be included in the Retrofit Curb Ramp Detectable <br />Warning Surface item of work. Refer to Sheet 18 for locations. <br />14. Placement of Asphalt Concrete Overlay shall not begin until the Asphalt <br />Concrete used in Pavement Repair has been in place for 18 hours. <br />15. Asphalt Concrete shall be placed in accordance to Section 39 of the Caltrans <br />Standard Specifications with Pavement Reinforcing Fabric on existing or <br />prepared surface. <br />FOR MENDOCINO AVENUE & PRINCETON AVENUE RECONSTRUCT AREAS ONLY <br />16. All driveway Part Circle Culverts and all associated AC and/or concrete that <br />has been placed over the curb, gutter and sidewalk shall be removed and <br />disposed of. All Steel Plating at driveways shall be removed and returned to <br />residents. Payment for these shall be considered as included in the Clearing <br />and Grubbing item of work. <br />17.
