Chip seal must be placed in a single layer on existing or prepared asphalt concrete pavement surface. No chip seal is allowed on Portland Cement Concrete surfaces including pavement, railroad crossings, existing bridge decks, etc. 2. Screenings must have fine gradation of i" maximum. 3. Two weeks prior to the start of work, the Contractor must furnish to the Engineer a schedule showing proposed street closures on each half—day basis. No work will commence until this schedule is approved by the Engineer. 4. All intersection radii within project limits must be sealed to existing edge of pavement, face of dike or lip of curb and gutter. 5. Before chip seal is to be applied to any area, protect all utility covers, including, but not limited to: maintenance holes, water valves and survey monument frames and covers. Remove protective covers after chip seal. Full compensation for said work must be considered as included in the contract unit price for various items of work and no separate payment will be made therefor. 6. Surface preparation work must be as directed by the Engineer. Locations and dimensions of Pavement Repair will be determined by the Engineer and must be placed 18 hours prior to placing chip seal. 7. Remove and dispose of all existing Thermoplastic Traffic Stripes and Pavement Markings in all project areas. The Contractor is responsible for verifying the quantities within the Project's limits of work. See sheet 9 for locations and quantities. 8. Perform street sweeping throughout the duration of the chip seal operations of the project per the specifications. Full compensation for these sweeping operations must be considered as included in the contract unit price paid for various items of work and no separate payment will be made therefor. Unless school is not in session or otherwise approved by the Engineer, preform chip seal operation on weekends for streets within close proximity to schools. The Contractor must not begin chip sealing a street after 1:00 PM without the approval from the Engineer. 10. Place Monument Frame and Cover at various locations, see Summary of Quantities for locations and quantities. 11. Areas in County right—of—way used for staging and/or storage of materials will be approved by the Engineer. The areas utilized for staging and/or storage must be restored to their original condition. Any damages or unclean conditions to staging or storage areas must be repaired at the Contractor's own expense. It will be the Contractor's responsibility to obtain permission from the property owner to stage equipment or store materials on private property. You must must provide a letter of release from the property owner of the areas utilized for staging and/or storage of materials. 12. Traffic delays due to construction operations must not exceed 10 minutes, or J mile of vehicle queue, whichever occurs first. 13. High Friction Surface Treatment (HEST) sections on Corral Hollow Road are not to be chip sealed (See sheet 7 for locations). 14. The Contractor must perform final roadway sweeping operations on all chip sealed roads fifteen (15) working days after application. All sweeping operations within or adjacent to a travel lane require traffic control.
