Prior to commencing any work, it shall be the <br />contractor's responsibility to have each utility company <br />locate in the field their main and service lines. The <br />contractor shall notify the members of the Underground <br />Service Alert (USA) 48 hours in advance of performing <br />excavation work and/or sign relocation work by calling <br />toll—free 811 or 1 —800-227-2600. <br />2. The Contractor shall field verify all utility locations and <br />depths. It shall be the Contractor's sole responsibility to <br />protect all existing utilities, so that no damage results to <br />them during the performance of this contract. The <br />contractor shall be required to cooperate with other <br />contractors and utility companies installing new <br />structures, utilities, and services to the project. <br />3. Existing drainage facilities, water valves, frames and <br />covers, water meters, trees, shrubs, curb, gutter and <br />sidewalk shall remain in place unless otherwise noted on <br />the Plans. <br />4. Under the provisions of Section 84 of the Caltrans <br />Standard Specifications, temporary centerline delineation <br />and pavement markings at all crosswalks and stop <br />locations shall be applied and maintained by the <br />Contractor if permanent replacement is not placed the <br />same day as removal. Placement and type of material <br />will be as approved by the Engineer. <br />6. A primer, of the type recommended by the manufacturer <br />of the thermoplastic material, shall be applied to all <br />asphaltic surfaces over 6 months old and to all Portland <br />cement concrete surfaces immediately in advance of, but <br />concurrent with, the application of thermoplastic material <br />under the provisions of Section 84 of the Caltrans <br />Standard Specifications. <br />7. New thermoplastic striping, pavement markings and <br />pavement markers shall be placed in like manner as the <br />existing striping, pavement marking and pavement <br />markers details unless otherwise indicated on the plans. <br />The limits of the proposed striping must match the limits <br />of the existing striping unless otherwise indicated on the <br />plans. Due to changes in traffic conditions, placement <br />location of pavement markings and/or striping detail may <br />be changed at the discretion of the Engineer. <br />8. At railroad crossings, thermoplastic paint shall not be <br />applied to any existing railroads or their concrete <br />planking. <br />9.
