If any underground utilities are marked by USA member locators near
any proposed boring locations, field adjustments will be made to ensure that at least 5 feet of lateral
clearance from any potential lines is maintained. The boring equipment is contained within a wheel-
mounted drill rig with a maximum height of 30 feet. Field adjustments will be made to ensure that the
distance between the drill rig and overhead power lines is in compliance with OSHA regulations.
As an additional precaution, the upper five feet of each boring location will be cleared using hand-
powered equipment.
Traffic Control
DCA will subcontract traffic control services to a licensed traffic control contractor. Where shoulder
closures with minor encroachments are required, traffic control measures will be implemented per
Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) Typical Application (TA-) 6. Where single lane
closures are required on two-lane roads, traffic control measures will be implemented per MUTCD TA-10.
Vehicular traffic will be routed around the closure by flaggers. Personnel conducting flagging activities will
be trained and certified by the State of California in accordance with California Code of Regulation, Title 8.
Certification cards will be physically carried by any traffic control personnel working flaggers.
Plates for MUTCD TA-1, TA-6, TA-10, TA-18 along with associated descriptions from the MUTCD, are
attached.
Backfill Methodology
All borings will be backfilled in accordance with San Joaquin County Ordinance Code Section 9-1115.6
using grout consisting of a mixture of cement and bentonite. The fractional amount of bentonite will not
exceed 5 percent of the cumulative dry weight of the mixture. The grout injection will begin at the bottom
of the cavity and will move upward as the grout level rises. A field engineer or geologist, licensed in the
state of California, will supervise all backfill activities and will coordinate with San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department personnel for inspection services.
