IT IS INTENDED THAT THESE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS REQUIRE ALL <br />LABOR AND MATERIALS NECESSARY AND PROPER FOR THE WORK <br />CONTEMPLATED AND THAT THE WORK BE COMPLETED IN ACCORDANCE <br />WITH THEIR TRUE INTENT AND PURPOSE. THE ENGINEER SHALL BE NOTIFIED BY THE <br />CONTRACTOR OF THE SCHEDULED TIME AND PLACE OF SUCH <br />VISUAL VERIFICATION TO ENABLE SAID FIRM TO HAVE A <br />REPRESENTATIVE PRESENT. <br />D. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY USA (UNDERGROUND SERVICE <br />ALERT) FOR THE UTILITY LOCATIONS PRIOR TO ANY CONSTRUCTION <br />(800-227-2600). THE USA AUTHORIZATION NUMBER SHALL BE KEPT AT <br />THE JOB SITE. <br />4. THESE PLANS SHOW EXISTING FEATURES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED <br />TO TREES, UTILITIES, AND STRUCTURES THAT MAY BE AFFECTED BY THE <br />CONSTRUCTION OR PLACEMENT OF THE PROPOSED ENGINEERED <br />IMPROVEMENTS. THE CONTRACTOR WILL IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY THE <br />ENGINEER IF THERE ARE ANY EXISTING FEATURES, WHETHER SHOWN <br />OR NOT SHOWN ON THESE PLANS, THAT COULD IN ANY WAY BE IN <br />POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH THE DESIGN OF THESE PLANS. ALL WORK <br />WITHIN THE VICINITY OF A POTENTIAL CONFLICT SHALL CEASE UNTIL AN <br />ADEQUATE AND APPROPRIATE SOLUTION IS DETERMINED BY THE <br />ENGINEER. <br />5.CONFLICT: <br />THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO PERFORMING <br />ANY CORRECTIVE ACTION REQUIRED DUE TO UNFORESEEN CONFLICTS <br />IN THE IMPROVEMENT PLANS OR DUE TO POSSIBLE STAKING ERRORS. <br />THE ENGINEER ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR THE COST OF DESIGN OF <br />ANY MODIFICATION PERFORMED WITHOUT SUCH NOTIFICATION. <br />6.PUBLIC SAFETY & TRAFFIC CONTROL: <br />THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME SOLE AND COMPLETE <br />RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOB SITE CONDITIONS DURING THE COURSE OF <br />CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT, INCLUDING SAFETY OF ALL PERSONS <br />AND PROPERTY. THIS REQUIREMENT WILL APPLY CONTINUOUSLY AND <br />NOT BE LIMITED TO NORMAL WORKING HOURS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL <br />DEFEND, INDEMNIFY AND HOLD THE OWNER AND THE ENGINEER <br />HARMLESS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, REAL OR ALLEGED, IN <br />CONNECTION WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF WORK ON THIS PROJECT. <br />7.EARTHWORK: <br />A. ALL EXCAVATION, GRADING, SCARIFYING, MOISTURIZING, FILL <br />PLACEMENT, COMPACTION, LIME TREATMENT, ETC., SHALL BE <br />PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS, <br />CONTAINED IN THE TERRACON CONSULTANTS, INC. GEOTECHNICAL <br />ENGINEERING REPORT "INSURANCE AUTO AUCTION FACILITY <br />PROJECT NO. NA195174" DATED JUNE 22, 2020 AND ALL ADDENDA, <br />AND IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE CITY AND COUNTY STANDARDS, <br />CODES AND SPECIFICATIONS. <br />B. THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER SHALL OBSERVE THE GRADING <br />ACTIVITIES AND PERFORM COMPACTION TESTING FOR THIS <br />PROJECT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE AT LEAST 48 HOURS <br />NOTICE TO THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER OF THE NEED FOR <br />OBSERVATION AND TESTING SERVICES. <br />C. ALL CUT SLOPES SHALL BE ROUNDED AT THE "BREAK" SO THAT THEY <br />BLEND WITH THE NATURAL GROUND CONTOURS. <br />D. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL UTILIZE DUST CONTROL STANDARDS <br />CONSISTENT WITH SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY STANDARDS. <br />E. EXCAVATION AND EMBANKMENT SIDE SLOPES SHOWN ON THE <br />PLANS AS A RATIO, E.G. 4:1, REFER TO THE RATIO OF HORIZONTAL <br />TO VERTICAL DISTANCES. "MINIMUM" SLOPE MEANS "NOT FLATTER <br />THAN" AND "MAXIMUM" SLOPE MEANS "NOT STEEPER THAN." <br />F. ALLOWABLE GRADING TOLERANCE IS PLUS OR MINUS 0.10 FOOT OF <br />THE ELEVATIONS SHOWN HEREON. <br />G. IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL PLAN, <br />THE CONTRACTOR SHALL IMPLEMENT CONSTRUCTION BEST <br />MANAGEMENT PRACTICES DURING CONSTRUCTION TO CONTROL <br />EROSION, KEEP SEDIMENT FROM LEAVING THE PROJECT SITE, AND <br />PREVENT STORM WATER POLLUTION. EXISTING STORM DRAIN <br />INLETS SHALL BE PROTECTED AND CONVEYANCES WITHIN THE <br />PROJECT AREA TO PREVENT SEDIMENT FROM CONSTRUCTION <br />ACTIVITIES ENTERING THE STORM DRAIN SYSTEM. <br />H. ALL DISTURBED AREAS SHALL BE REVEGETATED IN ACCORDANCE <br />WITH THE PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS. <br />I. NO OBSTRUCTION OF NATURAL WATER COURSES SHALL BE <br />PERMITTED. <br />8.PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION: <br />A. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MATCHING EXISTING ASPHALT, <br />SURROUNDING LANDSCAPING AND OTHER IMPROVEMENTS WITH A <br />SMOOTH TRANSITION IN PAVING AND AVOID THE CREATION OF ANY <br />LOW SPOTS OR HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS OR ANY OTHER ABRUPT <br />OR APPARENT CHANGES IN APPEARANCE, GRADES, OR <br />CROSS-SLOPES. <br />B. THESE SPECIFICATIONS SHALL AMEND, MODIFY, OR SUPPLEMENT <br />PARTS 2 THROUGH 6 OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS OR PUBLIC <br />WORKS CONSTRUCTION, 2015 EDITION (“STANDARD <br />SPECIFICATIONS”) AND SHALL TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER SAID <br />STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. <br />C. WHENEVER REFERENCE IS MADE TO "STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS” IT <br />SHALL REFER TO THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC <br />WORKS CONSTRUCTION (2015). <br />D. SELECTION OF PAVEMENT REHABILITATION METHODS IS BASED <br />UPON OWNER'S DESIRE TO EXTEND OVERALL PAVEMENT SERVICE <br />LIFE APPROXIMATELY SEVEN (7) YEARS WITH MINIMAL FUTURE <br />MAINTENANCE, BASED UPON ASSUMED USE BY LESS THAN 2% <br />HEAVY TRUCKS AND VEHICLES. SAID FUTURE MAINTENANCE MAY <br />INCLUDE, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF <br />PAVEMENT STRUCTURAL SECTIONS (DIG-OUTS AND POTHOLE <br />REPAIRS), SKIN-PATCHING, VEGETATION REMOVAL, AND CRACK <br />FILLING/REPAIR. NO WARRANTY IS EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED <br />WITH REGARD TO RESULTING SERVICE LIFE OF THE REHABILITATED <br />PAVEMENT. <br />PAVEMENT REPLACEMENT <br />A. AREAS OF PAVEMENT REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT (DIG-OUTS) IS <br />SHOWN ON THE PLANS. <br />B. ALL EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS REQUIRED TO BE REMOVED BY <br />CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW WORK AND ALL EXCAVATION, GRADING, <br />SUBGRADE PREPARATION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH <br />SECTIONS 300-1 AND 301-1 OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. <br />C. TO COMPENSATE FOR UNSTABLE BASE, THE THICKNESS OF <br />ASPHALTIC CONCRETE PAVEMENT MAY INCREASE WITH THE <br />DIRECTION AND APPROVAL OF THE ENGINEER TO NO MORE THAN <br />TWICE THE THICKNESS OF THE DIG-OUT THICKNESSES SPECIFIED <br />ABOVE. THE UPPER 6 INCHES OF THE EXPOSED SUBGRADE AND/OR <br />AGGREGATE BASE SHALL BE COMPACTED TO 95 PERCENT RELATIVE <br />COMPACTION IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 301 OF THE <br />STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. WORK UNDER THIS ITEM OF WORK <br />SHALL INCLUDE PREPARATION OF THE EXISTING EXPOSED <br />SUBGRADE AND/OR AGGREGATE BASE FOR PLACEMENT OF THE <br />NEW ASPHALTIC CONCRETE, AND ALL GRADING NECESSARY TO <br />OBTAIN THE FINISHED GRADES SHOWN ON THE PLANS. <br />D. ASPHALTIC CONCRETE SHALL BE 1/2” CLASS C2-PG-70-10, AS <br />SPECIFIED HEREIN. <br />E. COMPENSATION FOR THE REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF ASPHALTIC <br />CONCRETE PAVEMENT AND ALL EXCESS MATERIAL, PREPARATION <br />OF SUBGRADE AND AGGREGATE BASE, PLACEMENT OF NEW <br />ASPHALTIC CONCRETE, FURNISHING ALL LABOR, MATERIALS, TOOLS, <br />EQUIPMENT, INCIDENTALS, AND PROTECTION AND REPAIR OF <br />EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS AND PROPERTY DAMAGED BY THE <br />CONTRACTOR'S OPERATIONS, WHETHER ANTICIPATED OR <br />ACCIDENTAL, SHALL BE CONSIDERED INCLUDED IN THE CONTRACT <br />UNIT PRICE PAID FOR DIG-OUTS. <br />SURFACE PREPARATION <br />A. ALL SURFACES TO BE CRACK FILLED, SLURRY SEALED, <br />TACK-COATED, SKIN-PATCHED, OR OVERLAID SHALL BE <br />THOROUGHLY CLEANED TO REMOVE ALL DIRT, DUST, DEBRIS, AND <br />CHEMICAL RESIDUE (INCLUDING OILS AND GREASE, FUELS, <br />SOLVENTS, ETC.). <br />ASPHALTIC CONCRETE <br />A. ASPHALTIC CONCRETE (AC) SHALL BE COMPLY WITH THE <br />PROVISIONS OF SECTIONS 203-6, AND 302-5 OF THE STANDARD <br />SPECIFICATIONS, AS MODIFIED HEREINBELOW. <br />B. CLASS C2-PG-70-10 (1/2” DENSE MEDIUM) HOT MIX ASPHALT (HMA) <br />SHALL BE USED FOR DIG-OUTS AND OVERLAYS IN LOCATIONS <br />DESIGNATED ON THE PLANS. <br />C. CLASS E-PG-70-10 (EXTRA FINE) HMA SHALL BE USED FOR “SKIN <br />PATCHES” IN LOCATIONS DESIGNATED ON THE PLANS. <br />D. DISTRIBUTION AND SPREADING OF AC SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE <br />WITH SECTION 302-5.5 OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. <br />TACK COAT <br />IN ADDITION TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 302-5.4 TACK COAT OF THE <br />STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, ALL HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL SURFACES TO <br />BE PAVED WITH AC ARE TO BE TACK COATED WITH SS-1H EMULSIFIED <br />ASPHALT TACK COAT. THE APPLICATION EQUIPMENT AND APPLICATION RATE <br />SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS <br />AND AS APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER. <br />CRACK FILLING <br />A. ALL CRACKS AND JOINTS SHALL BE TREATED WITH A <br />NON-SELECTIVE, SYSTEMIC WEED AND GRASS KILLER TO PREVENT <br />FUTURE GROWTH, AS SPECIFIED ABOVE. <br />B. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CLEAN, TREAT AND SEAL THE CRACKS. <br />THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT OVERFILL THE CRACKS, BUT SHALL <br />LEAVE THEM CONCAVE. <br />C. CRACK FILLING SHALL NOT BE PERFORMED IN AREAS DESIGNATED <br />ON THE PLANS FOR REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT (“DIG-OUTS'). <br />D. CRACK FILLING SHALL BE CONDUCTED ON ALL CRACKS BETWEEN <br />3/16” AND 1-1/2” AND SHALL BE OUTSIDE OF THE DIG-OUT AREAS <br />DESIGNATED ON THE PLANS. <br />E. CRACKS TO BE FILLED SHALL BE CLEANED TO REMOVE DUST, DIRT, <br />MOISTURE, FOREIGN MATERIAL (INCLUDING WEEDS AND GRASS), <br />AND FILLED WITH A HOT-APPLIED RUBBER MODIFIED ASPHALT TYPE <br />SEALANT SUCH AS CRAFCO ROADSAVER 522 SEALANT, OR <br />APPROVED EQUAL. <br />F. CRACKS WIDER THAN 1-1/2” SHALL BE FILLED WITH SLURRY SEAL <br />PRIOR TO APPLICATION OF SLURRY SEAL IN THE AREA DESIGNATED <br />ON THE PLANS. <br />DISPOSAL <br />A. IN ALL AREAS OF PAVEMENT REMOVAL AND RECONSTRUCTION <br />(DIG-OUTS) AND AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER, THE CONTRACTOR <br />SHALL REMOVE AND DISPOSE OF EXCESS PAVEMENT, SOIL AND ALL <br />OTHER MATERIAL. <br />B. THE CONTRACTOR HAS SOLE DISCRETION ON THE MEANS OF <br />HAULING AWAY THE REMOVAL ITEMS. THE CONTRACTOR MAY USE <br />CONTRACTOR'S OWN VEHICLES AND EMPLOYEES TO HAUL WASTE <br />THAT IS INCIDENTAL TO THE CONTRACT. <br />C. IF THE CONTRACTOR SELF-HAULS WASTE MATERIAL, HE OR SHE <br />MUST DESIGNATE THE SPECIFIC STATE PERMITTED LANDFILL OR <br />RECYCLING FACILITY THAT WILL BE USED TO DISPOSE OF ANY <br />WASTE MATERIAL GENERATED ON THE JOB <br />D. ALL EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS REMOVED BY CONSTRUCTION OF THE <br />NEW WORK SHALL BECOME THE PROPERTY OF THE CONTRACTOR <br />AND SHALL BE REMOVED AND DISPOSED OF IN ACCORDANCE WITH <br />THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 300-1 OF THE STANDARD <br />SPECIFICATIONS. <br />QUICK-SET TYPE II SLURRY SEAL WITH LATEX ADDITIVE <br />A. SLURRY SEAL SHALL BE QUICKSET TYPE II EMULSION-AGGREGATE <br />SLURRY, PRODUCED WITH CQS-1H ASPHALT EMULSION, AND <br />CONFORMING TO THE MIX AND QUALITY REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIED <br />IN SECTION 203-5 OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. <br />B. ULTRAPAVE 70, OR APPROVAL EQUAL, SHALL BE ADDED TO THE <br />SLURRY SEAL MIXTURE AT A RATE OF 3% IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE <br />MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS. <br />C. SPREADING OF THE TYPE II SLURRY SEAL SHALL BE PERFORMED IN <br />ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 302-4 OF THE STANDARD <br />SPECIFICATIONS. <br />D. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN AND TEST QUALITY ASSURANCE <br />SAMPLES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FIELD SAMPLING PROCEDURES <br />AND LABORATORY TESTING PROCEDURES SPECIFIED IN SECTION <br />302-4.3.3 OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. <br />E. MIXING AND PLACING QUICK-SET TYPE II EMULSION-AGGREGATE <br />SLURRY SEAL, INCLUDING ALL LABOR, MATERIALS, TOOLS, <br />EQUIPMENT, TRANSPORTATION PERMITS NOTICES, TRAFFIC <br />CONTROL, INCIDENTALS AND APPURTENANCES, WEED REMOVAL, <br />SURFACE PREPARATION IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO PLACING SLURRY <br />SEAL, PROTECTION OF MANHOLES, VALVE BOXES, DROP INLETS AND <br />OTHER SERVICE ENTRANCES, POST-PLACEMENT SWEEPING, <br />CLEAN-UP OF TRACKED MATERIAL, REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF <br />EXCESS MATERIAL, INCIDENTALS, AND PROTECTION AND REPAIR OF <br />PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PROPERTY. <br />PROTECTION AND RESTORATION OF EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS <br />A. PROTECTION AND RESTORATION OF EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS <br />SHALL CONFORM TO SECTION 7_9 OF THE STANDARD <br />SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION AND AS <br />DESCRIBED BELOW. <br />B. POLE LINES, FENCES, SIGNS, MARKERS AND MONUMENTS, <br />BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES, CONDUITS, PIPELINES UNDER OR <br />ABOVE GROUND, SEWER AND WATER LINES, ALL PARKING LOT OR <br />STREET FACILITIES, AND ANY OTHER IMPROVEMENTS OR FACILITIES <br />WITHIN OR ADJACENT TO THE AREAS OF WORK WAY SHALL BE <br />PROTECTED FROM INJURY OR DAMAGE. ANY INJURY OR DAMAGE <br />RESULTING FROM CONTRACTOR'S OPERATIONS SHALL BE <br />CORRECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE. <br />9.PRESERVATION OF PROPERTY: <br />IMPROVEMENTS OR FACILITIES WITHIN OR ADJACENT TO THE <br />CONSTRUCTION AREA SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM INJURY OR DAMAGE, <br />AND UPON ORDER BY THE OWNER, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE <br />AND INSTALL SAFE-GUARDS APPROVED BY THE OWNER TO PROTECT <br />SUCH OBJECTS FROM INJURY OR DAMAGE. IF SUCH OBJECTS ARE <br />INJURED OR DAMAGED BY REASON OF THE CONTRACTORS OPERATIONS, <br />THEY SHALL BE REPLACED OR RESTORED AT THE CONTRACTOR'S <br />EXPENSE. THE FACILITIES SHALL BE REPLACED OR RESTORED TO A <br />CONDITION AS GOOD AS WHEN THE CONTRACTOR ENTERED UPON THE <br />WORK, OR AS GOOD AS REQUIRED BY THE SPECIFICATION <br />ACCOMPANYING THE CONTRACT, IF ANY SUCH OBJECTS ARE A PART OF <br />THE WORK BEING PERFORMED UNDER CONTRACT. THE OWNER MAY <br />MAKE OR CAUSE TO BE MADE SUCH TEMPORARY REPAIRS AS ARE <br />NECESSARY TO RESTORE TO SERVICE ANY DAMAGED FACILITY. THE <br />COST OF SUCH REPAIRS SHALL BE BORNE BY THE CONTRACTOR. <br />10. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING STANDARDS <br />FOR SANITATION DURING CONSTRUCTION OF IMPROVEMENTS: GARBAGE <br />CANS, CONSTRUCTION DUMPSTERS, AND DEBRIS PILES SHALL BE <br />REMOVED ON A MINIMUM WEEKLY BASIS. ALL FOOD RELATED TRASH <br />ITEMS SUCH AS WRAPPERS, CANS, BOTTLES, AND FOOD SCRAPS SHALL <br />BE DISPOSED OF IN CLOSED CONTAINERS ONLY AND SHALL BE <br />REGULARLY REMOVED FROM THE SITE. <br />11.GEOTECHNICAL RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />A. EXCAVATIONS, SUBGRADE PREPARATION, ROCK FILLING, AND SOIL <br />COMPACTION SHOULD BE OBSERVED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF <br />TERRACON. ACTUAL QUANTITIES FOR EARTHWORK WILL DEPEND ON <br />CONDITIONS ENCOUNTERED IN THE FIELD DURING CONSTRUCTION. <br />B. ROCK SLOPE PROTECTION (ROCK) TO BE PLACED DIRECTLY INTO <br />AREAS WITH RELATIVELY DEEP AND NARROW GULLIES. EXCAVATE <br />LOOSE OR UNSTABLE SOIL AS EVALUATED BY TERRACON. <br />C. COMPACTED SOIL SHOULD BE PLACED OVER ROCK FOR FINISH <br />GRADING IN AREAS TO RECEIVE IMPROVEMENTS (I.E., CONCRETE <br />V-DITCH OR PAVEMENT) OR WHERE IT IS DESIRED TO ESTABLISH <br />FINISH GRADES WITH SOIL INSTEAD OF ROCK. FABRIC SHOULD BE <br />PLACED AT THE BOTTOMS AND SIDES OF THE ERODED AREAS TO <br />RECEIVE ROCK AND ON TOP OF ROCK WHERE COMPACTED SOIL IS <br />USED TO ESTABLISH FINISH GRADES. <br />D. ROCK TO CONFORM TO FACING CLASS ROCK SLOPE PROTECTION IN <br />CONFORMANCE WITH CALTRANS STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS <br />SECTION 72-2. THE STANDARD SPECIFIES THE USE OF ANGULAR <br />ROCK, METHOD B FOR PLACEMENT, AND RSP FABRIC CLASS NO. 8. <br />SOIL TO BE COMPACTED SHOULD BE PLACED IN HORIZONTAL LIFTS <br />NOT EXCEEDING 8 INCHES IN LOOSE THICKNESS AND COMPACTED <br />TO AT LEAST 90 PERCENT RELATIVE COMPACTION AT 2 PERCENTAGE <br />POINTS ABOVE OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT AS DETERMINED BY <br />ASTM D1557. <br />E. AT THE BRIDGE LOCATION, A LEVEL KEYWAY OR TRENCH ABOUT 4 <br />FEET WIDE SHOULD BE EXCAVATED INTO FIRM MATERIAL. LOOSE OR <br />UNSTABLE SOIL AND DELETERIOUS MATERIAL WITHIN THE ERODED <br />AREAS SHOULD BE EXCAVATED TO EXPOSE FIRM AND STABLE <br />MATERIAL PRIOR TO ROCK PLACEMENT AS EVALUATED IN THE FIELD. <br />EXCAVATION TO CREATE RELATIVELY LEVEL BENCHES ON THE <br />SLOPE MAY BE NEEDED FOR ROCK PLACEMENT. IT MAY BE POSSIBLE <br />TO PLACE THE ROCK NEAR ITS PLANNED LOCATION USING <br />EQUIPMENT FROM THE EXISTING BRIDGE DECK WITH THE ROCK <br />THEN WORKED INTO ITS FINAL POSITION USING EQUIPMENT ON THE <br />SLOPE. <br />F. RELATIVELY SMALL VOIDS ADJACENT TO THE BRIDGE ABUTMENT <br />AND FOOTINGS EXTENDING UNDERNEATH THE STRUCTURAL <br />CONCRETE, WHICH CANNOT BE BACKFILLED WITH ROCK SLOPE <br />PROTECTION (RSP), SHOULD BE BACKFILLED WITH COMPACTED <br />LOW-STRENGTH MATERIAL (CLSM). EXCAVATION OF LOOSE OR <br />UNSTABLE SOIL MAY BE NEEDED IN SOME OF THESE AREAS PRIOR <br />TO CLSM PLACEMENT. THE CLSM SHOULD HAVE A 28-DAY <br />COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH FROM 50 TO 100 PSI AND SHOULD BE A <br />FLUID WORKABLE MIXTURE OF AGGREGATE, CEMENT, AND WATER IN <br />ACCORDANCE WITH CALTRANS STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS SECTION <br />19-3.02G. FORMS AND OTHER CONTROL SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED TO <br />CONTAIN THE CLSM AND PREVENT IT FROM FLOWING DOWNSLOPE <br />INTO THE CHANNEL. BACKFILLING OVER THESE AREAS SHOULD BE <br />PERFORMED AFTER THE DESIGN COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF THE <br />CLSM HAS BEEN CONFIRMED. <br />G. AT THE BRIDGE LOCATION, THE INTENT IS TO AVOID DISTURBANCE <br />AND WORK WITHIN THE DRAINAGE CHANNEL BOTTOM. WHERE <br />LIMITED WORK IS REQUIRED WITHIN THE CHANNEL NEAR THE <br />BRIDGE, SMALL EARTHWORK EQUIPMENT LOWERED INTO THE <br />CHANNEL USING A CRANE SHOULD BE ANTICIPATED. NO TEMPORARY <br />RAMPS OR ROADS INTO THE DRAINAGE CHANNEL WILL BE ALLOWED. <br />2
