All utility locations shown on the plans are for general information only. <br />The Contractor shall contact Underground Service Alert (USA) by calling <br />(800) 642-2444 at least 48 hours prior to any excavation operations. <br />Where "potholing" is required, the Contractor shall use hand tools to <br />locate the utility. <br />2. Prior to starting any work within the State of California right—of—way, <br />the Contractor shall execute an encroachment agreement with the <br />Department of Transportation (Caltrans). <br />3. Prior to starting any work within the Southern Pacific Railroad right—of—way, <br />the Contractor shall execute an encroachment agreement with the railroad. <br />The Contractor's attention is directed to Section 13, "Relations with the <br />Railroad," of the special provisions. <br />4. Interruptions of service shall be kept to a minimum. No valve or other <br />control on the existing system shall be operated by the Contractor for <br />any purpose. <br />5. When installing water meters, the Contractor shall limit his work to an area <br />or section which can be completed in a timely manner. Lengthly inter— <br />ruptions and wide—spread shutoffs will not be allowed. The Contractor <br />shall submit a work plan to the Engineer showing the areas or sections <br />to be worked on and a schedule of the work to be performed on them. <br />Interruptions of service shall be limited to 4 hours or less. <br />6. All water services lacking existing meter boxes shall have a new meter box <br />installed along with the new water meter. Full compensation for fur— <br />nishing and installing the meter box shall be considered as included in <br />the contract unit price for meter box. No adjustment of compensation <br />will be made for any increase or decrease in the quantities of meter <br />boxes. The provisions in Section 9-1.08, "Adjustment of Overhead <br />Costs," of the Standard Specifications, shall not apply to meter boxes. <br />7. The Contractor shall contact Victor Elementary School at (209) 331-7441 <br />prior to the start of any construction operations adjacent to the school. <br />Contractor shall schedule his operations to accomodate school requirements <br />for vehicle and pedestrian access, and to mitigate hazards to the public. <br />If new meter box is required, use <br />Christy Products No. B-12 Meter <br />Box with No. C-20 metal lid, <br />or equal. <br />Exist.
