N. <br />GENERAL NOTES: <br />1) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL PERMITS AND <br />LICENSES REQUIRED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND COMPLETION OF <br />THIS PROJECT. <br />2) ALL IMPROVEMENTS TO BE DONE SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH <br />THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF <br />PUBLIC WORKS STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS; SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT; THE LATEST EDITION OF THE STATE OF <br />CALIFORNIA, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, STANDARD SPECIFI- <br />CATIONS; AND T41E i"'"STRICT STANDARDS. <br />3) IT IS INTENDED THAT THESE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS <br />REQUIRE ALL LABOR AND MATERIALS NECESSARY AND PROPER FOR <br />THE WORK CONTEMPLATED AND THAT THE WORK BE COMPLETED IN <br />ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR TRUE INTENT AND PURPOSE. THE <br />CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY REGARDING <br />ANY DISCREPANCIES AND AMBIGUITIES WHICH MAY EXIST IN THE <br />PLANS OR SPECIFICATIONS. IF THE PLANS OR SPECIFICATIONS <br />DESCRIBE PORTIONS OF THE WORK IN GENERAL TERMS BUT NOT IN <br />COMPLETE DETAIL, IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT ONLY THE BEST <br />GENERAL PRACTICE IS TO PREVAIL AND THAT ONLY MATERIALS AND <br />WORKMANSHIP OF THE FIRST QUALITY ARE TO BE USED. <br />4) BUILDING PADS: CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE COMPACTED PADS <br />FOR BUILDINGS GRADED TO THE ELEVATIONS SHOWN ON THE <br />GRADING PLAN. <br />5) ALL COMPACTION TESTS TO BE PAID FOR BY THE CONTRACTOR. <br />6) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY LOCATION OF ALL EXISTING <br />UNDERGROUND UTILITIES AND SHALL CONTACT THE RESPECTIVE <br />UTILITY COMPANIES PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF WORK. HE SHALL <br />BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOCATION AND PRESERVATION OF ALL <br />SUCH FACILITIES IN THE AREA OF CONSTRUCTION, AND SHALL <br />NOTIFY UTILITIES TWENTY-FOUR HOURS IN ADVANCE OF ANY <br />CONSTRUCTION. (UNDERGROUND SERVICE ALERT - (800) 642- <br />2444). <br />7) CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATION OF THE <br />REMOVAL AND/OR RELOCATION OF ALL EXISTING UTILITIES WITH <br />RESPECTIVE UTILITY COMPANIES. <br />8) DUST CONTROL: APPROPRIATE DUST CONTROL SHALL BE <br />PROVIDED FOR THE ALLEVIATION OR PREVENTION OF DUST NUISANCE <br />AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE. <br />9) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FIELD <br />CHANGES MADE WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION FROM THE ENGINEER. <br />10) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL LIGHTS, SIGNS, <br />BARRICADES, FLAGMEN OR OTHER DEVICES NECESSARY TO PROVIDE <br />FOR PUBLIC SAFETY. <br />11) CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT IN ACCORDANCE WITH <br />GENERALLY ACCEPTED CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES, CONSTRUCTION <br />CONTRACTOR WILL BE REQUIRED TO ASSUME SOLE AND COMPLETE <br />RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOB SITE CONDITIONS DURING THE COURSE OF <br />CONSTRUCTION OF THF. PROJECT, INCLUDING SAFETY OF ALL <br />PERSONS AND PROPERTY; THAT THIS REQUIREMENT SHALL BE MADE <br />TO APPLY CONTINUOUSLY AND NOT BE LIMITED TO NORMAL WORKING <br />HOURS, AND CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR FURTHER AGREES TO <br />DEFEND, INDEMNIFY AND HOLD DESIGN PROFESSIONAL AND SAN <br />JOAQUIN COUNTY HARMLESS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, REAL OR <br />ALLEGED, IN CONNECTION WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF WORK ON THIS <br />PROJECT, EXCEPTING LIABILITY ARISING FROM THE SOLE NEGLIGE- <br />NCE OF DESIGN PROFESSIONAL. <br />12) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SHORING, BRACING, SLOPING <br />OR PROVISIONS TO PROTECT WORKMEN FOR ALL AREAS TO BE <br />EXCAVATED TO A DEPTH OF FIVE FEET OR MORE. SAID PROTECTION <br />TO BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF SAN <br />JOAQUIN COUNTY, DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS, AND STATE REGULL- <br />TIONS. <br />13) NECESSARY ENCROACHMENT PERMITS SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM <br />THE COUNTY OF SAN JOAQUIN, BEFORE BEGINNING OF WORK. <br />14) ALL TRENCHES ON EXISTING MAJOR AND COLLECTOR STREETS <br />AND CROSS TRENCHES ON ALL EXISTING STREETS SHALL BE PAVED <br />WITH TEMPORARY PAVING THE SAME DAY THE PAVEMENT CUT IS <br />MADE. <br />15) CONSTRUCTION STAKING FOR CURB, GUTTER, SIDEWALK, <br />SANITARY SEWER, AND STORM DRAIN SHALL BE DONE BY THOMPSON- <br />HYSELL ENGINEERS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY CIVIL ENGINEER 48 <br />HOURS IN ADVANCE OF HIS NEED FOR STAKING. <br />16) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL STAMP THE LETTER "S" AND "W" <br />DIRECTLY ABOVE THE SEWER AND WATER LATERAL LOCATIONS, AT <br />THE BACK OF SIDEWALK. <br />17) DRIVEWAYS ON STREETS WITH 6" VERTICAL CURBS SHALL BE <br />LOCATED BY THOMPSON-HYSELL ENGINEERS IN THE FIELD AT THE <br />TIME OF CONSTRUCTION. <br />18) CIVIL ENGINEERS SHALL SET THE MONUMENTS. <br />19) BENCH MARK: CHISELED SQUARE IN TOP OF CURB, GUTTER <br />AND SIDEWALK, NORTH SIDE OF J STREET AT <br />THE NORTH EAST PROPERTY CORNER. <br />ELEVATION: 15.35 <br />ELEVATION 15.35 - 0.10 = ELEVATION 15.25 L.C.W.D.
