GENERAL NOTES
<br />1. THE CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT, IN ACCORDANCE WITH GENERALLY
<br />ACCEPTED CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES, THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE REQUIRED

<br />OF WORK ON THIS PROJECT, EXEAPTING LIABILITY ARISING FROM THE
<br />SOLE NEGLIGENCE OF ENGINEER.
<br />2. EXCAVATIONS SHALL BE ADEQUATELY SHORED, BRACED AND SHEETED
<br />SO THAT THE EARTH WILL NOT SLIDE OR SETTLE AND SO THAT ALL
<br />EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS OF ANY KIND WILL BE FULLY PROTECTED FROM
<br />DAMAGE. ANY DAMAGE RESULTING FROM A LACK OF ADEQUATE SHORING,
<br />BRACING AND SHEETING, SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE
<br />CONTRACTOR AND HE SHALL EFFECT NECESSARY REPAIRS OR
<br />RECONSTRUCTION AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. WHERE THE EXCAVATION FOR A
<br />CONDUIT TRENCH, AND/OR STRUCTURE IS FIVE FEET OR MORE IN DEPTH,
<br />THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ADEQUATE SHEETING, SHORING AND
<br />BRACING OR EOUI VALENT METHOD, FOR THE PROTECTION OF LIFE, OR L ME,
<br />WHICH SHALL CONFORM TO THE APPLICABLE CONSTRUCTION SAFETY ORDERS
<br />OF THE DIVISION OF INDUSTRIAL SAFETY OF THE STA TE OF CALIFORNIA.
<br />THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ALWAYS COAPL Y WITH OSHA REQUIREMENTS.
<br />J. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO OBTAIN PERMITS
<br />NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK SHOWN /N THESE PLANS FROM THE
<br />APPROPRIATE AGENCIES.
<br />4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE EFFECTIVE ACTION TO PREVENT THE
<br />FORMATION OF AIRBORNE DUST NUISANCE AND SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
<br />ANY DAMAGE RESULTING FROM/ HIS FAILURE TO DO SO.
<br />5. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE FOR INGRESS AND EGRESS FOR

<br />6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL LIGHTS, SIGNS, BARRICADES,

<br />7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL POST EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NIAIIBERS FOR POLICE,
<br />FIRE, AMBULANCE, AND THOSE AGENCIES RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTENANCE
<br />OF UTILITIES IN THE VICINITY OF JOB SITE.
<br />B. ANY EXTRA CONSTRUCTION STAKING NECESSITATED SOLELY BY THE
<br />CONTRACTOR'S NEGLIGENCE WILL BE CHARGED TO THE CONTRACTOR ON A
<br />TIME AND EXPENSES BASIS, AND PAID FOR BY THE CONTRACTOR.
<br />9. STATIONING HEREON IS ALONG STREET CENTERLINE UNLESS OTHERWISE
<br />SHOWN OR INDICATED.
<br />10. ALL RETURN RADII AND CURB DATA ARE TO FACE OF CURB.
<br />11. ALL QUANTITIES AND PAY ITEMS ARE AND WILL BE BASED ON HORIZONTAL

<br />ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS INCURRED AS A RESULT OF CONTRACTOR'S FAILURE
<br />TO VERIFY LOCATIONS OF EXISTING UTILITIES PRIOR TO BEGINNING OF
<br />CONSTRUCTION IN THEIR VICINITY SHALL BE BORNE BY THE CONTRACTOR

<br />14. ALL EXISTING UTILITIES AND IMPROVEMENTS THAT BECOME DAMAGED

<br />SATISFACTION OF THE LOCAL AGENCY ENGINEER, AT THE CONTRACTOR'S
<br />SOLE EXPENSE.
<br />15. ANY RELOCATION OF PUBLIC UTILITIES SHALL BE CONDUCTED IN
<br />ACCORDANCE WITH ANY AND ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE UTILITY COMPANY
<br />INCLUDING FEES, BONDS, PERMITS AND WORKING CONDITIONS, ETC. THIS
<br />WORK SHALL BE DONE AT NO EXPENSE TO THE UTILITY COMPANY. THE
<br />OWNER SHALL PAY THE COST OF ALL SUCH RELOCATIONS WORK INCLUDING
<br />FEES, BONDS, PERMITS, ETC.
<br />16. IF ARCHAEOLOGICAL MATERIAL ARE UNCOVERED DURING GRADING,
<br />TRENCHING OR OTHER EXCA VA TION, EARTHWORK WITHIN 100 FEET OF THESE
<br />MATERIALS SHALL BE STOPPED UNTIL A PROFESSIONAL ARCHAEOLOGIST WHO

<br />FACILITIES IN THE FIELD.
<br />8. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTROL DUST AT ALL TIMES DURING CONSTRUCTION AS
<br />REQUIRED BY THE COUNTY OF SAN JOAQUIN.
<br />9. PRIOR TO TRENCHING FOR ALL UTILITY PIPE, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
<br />VERIFY, IN THE FIELD, THE SIZE AND LOCATION OF THE EXISTING PIPE
<br />AT THE POINT OF CONNECTION. ANY DEVIATION FROM THE PLANS SHALL
<br />BE RESOLVED BY THE DESIGN ENGINEER PRIOR TO TRENCHING. CONTRACTOR
<br />SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATION OF FIELD VERIFICATION.
<br />DESIGN ENGINEER SHALL BE ALLOWED REASONABLE TIME FOR CONFLICT

<br />10. MANHOLES, VALVES, CLEANOUTS, ETC. SHALL BE BROUGHT TO FINISH GRADE
<br />BY THE CONTRACTOR AFTER THE FINAL PAVING COURSE IS PLACED. WATER
<br />VALVES AAIST REMAIN ACCESSIBLE AT ALL TIMES DURING CONSTRUCTION.
<br />11. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTACTING THE NECESSARY
<br />PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ENTITIES, WHO HAVE AN INTEREST IN THE
<br />CONSTRUCTION OF THESE IMPROVEMENTS AS IT IMPACTS THEM, IN A TI MEL Y

<br />CONCRETE
<br />1. VERTICAL CURB, GUTTER AND SIDEWALK SHALL CONFORM TO SAN JOAQUIN
<br />COUNTY STANDARD DRAWING NO. R-6.
<br />2. WHEELCHAIR RAMPS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED AT LOCATIONS SHOWN ON THE
<br />PLANS AND SHALL CONFORM TO SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY STANDARD DRAWING NO.
<br />R -10A & B.
<br />3, EXISTING CURB, GUTTER AND SIDEWALK OUTSIDE THE WORK LIMITS THAT
<br />ARE DAMAGED DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPLACED BY THE
<br />CONTRACTOR AT THE CONTRACTOR'S SOLE EXPENSE AND TO THE
<br />SATISFACTION OF THE COUNTY.
<br />4. ALL CEMENT TO BE USED SHALL BE TYPE 11 PORTLAND CEMENT CONFORMING
<br />TO ASTM C150. PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE SHALL BE GRADE B AND HAVE
<br />A 28 -DAY MINIMUM COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF 2500 PSI. A COPY OF THE
<br />CONCRETE TAGS SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE CITY ENGINEER FOR EACH
<br />LOAD OF CONCRETE DELIVERED TO THE PROJECT.
<br />5. NEW CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTER SHALL BE TIED TO THE EXISTING
<br />CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTER WITH DOWELS. THE DOWELS SHALL BE NO. 4
<br />REBARS WITH A MIN/MIAI LENGTH OF 12 INCHES. THE DOWELS ARE TO BE
<br />INSERTED TO A MINIMUM OF 6 INCHES INTO THE EXISTING CONCRETE CURB.
<br />6. THE EXPOSED SURFACE OF THE CURB AND GUTTER SHALL BE BROOM FINISH.
<br />IMMEDIATELY UPON STRIPPING CURB FORMS AND PRIOR TO BACKFILLING,
<br />ALL ROCK POCKETS OR HONEYCOMBS SHALL BE REPAIRED TO THE
<br />SATISFACTION OF THE ENGINEER.
<br />ASPHALT CONCRETE
<br />1. AGGREGATE SUBBASE SHALL BE CLASS 2 AND SHALL CONFORM TO SECTION
<br />25 OF THE "STATE OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
<br />STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, JULY 1992. ' AGGREGATE BASE SHALL BE
<br />CLASS 2 AND SHALL CONFORM TO SECTION 16 OF THE "STATE OF
<br />CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS,
<br />JULY 1992. 'ASPHALT CONCRETE SHALL BE TYPE A" 3/4' MAXIMbMI,
<br />MEDIUM GRADATION AND SHALL CONFORM TO SECTION 39 OF THE STATE OF
<br />CALIFORNIA, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS,
<br />JULY 1992. "
<br />2. ASPHALT BINDER TO BE MIXED WITH AGGREGATES SHALL BE PAVING
<br />ASPHALT AR -8000 AND SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION
<br />92, "ASPHALTS" OF THE STATE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. AGGREGATE
<br />SHALL BE CLEAN AND FREE FROM DECOMPOSED MATER/ALS, ORGANIC
<br />MATERIAL AND OTHER DELETERIOUS SUBSTANCES, AND CONFORMING TO THE
<br />REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 39-2.02, "AGGREGATE" OF THE STATE
<br />STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.
<br />J. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE CONCRETE MIX DESIGN.
<br />4. PRIOR TO PLACING THE NEW ASPHALT CONCRETE, A TACK COAT SHALL BE
<br />APPLIED TO ALL VERTICAL SURFACES OF EXISTING PAVEMENT, CURBS,
<br />GUTTERS AND CONSTRUCTION JOINTS AGAINST WHICH ADDITIONAL ASPHALT
<br />CONCRETE IS TO BE PLACED. THE RATE OF APPL ICA TION SHALL BE
<br />APPROXIMATELY 0. 10 GALLON PER SQUARE YARD OF SURFACE COVERED.
<br />5. ASPHALT CONCRETE SHALL BE SPREAD AND COMPACTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH
<br />THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 39-5, "SPREADING AND COMPACTING
<br />EQUIPMENT," AND SECTION 39-6, "SPREADING AND COWACTING" OF THE
<br />STATE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.
<br />6. PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF NEW ASPHALT CONCRETE, CONTRACTOR SHALL
<br />COMPACT THE BASE ROCK MATERIALS WITH A VIBRATING ROLLER OR WITH A
<br />MECHANICAL TAMPER TO OBTAIN A MINI" OF 95% COMPACTION. THE
<br />SURFACE OF THE FINISHED AGGREGATE BASE AT ANY POINT SHALL NOT
<br />VARY MORE THAN 0.05 FOOT ABOVE OR BELOW THE GRADE ESTABLISHED ON
<br />THE PLANS. THE SPREADING AND COMPACTING OF AGGREGATE BASE SHALL
<br />CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 26-1.035, 26-1.04 AND
<br />26-1.05 OF THE STATE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.
<br />7. EXISTING PAVEMENT OUTSIDE THE WORK LIMITS DAMAGED DURING
<br />CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPLACED BY AN EQUAL SECTION TO THE
<br />SATISFACTION OF THE COUNTY.
<br />8. EXISTING AC PAVEMENT SHALL BE SAWCUT ALONG THE PROPOSED EDGE OF
<br />REMOVAL TO PROVIDE A NEAT CONFORM TO THE EXISTING AC PAVEMENT,
<br />9. AT THE TIME OF DELIVERY OF EACH SHIPMENT OF ASPHALT, THE VENDOR
<br />SUPPLYING THE MATERIAL WILL PROVIDE CERTIFIED COPIES OF TEST
<br />REPORT. THE TEST REPORT SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF
<br />SECTION 92-1. 03, 'TEST REPORT"OF THE STATE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.
<br />STREET LIGHTS
<br />1. ALL STREET LIGHTS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED TO SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
<br />STANDARD R-32, R-33 AND R-34.
<br />2. LUMINAIRES SHALL BE 150 WATT, HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM FOR STREET
<br />LIGHTS ON SCHULT£ ROAD, STANFORD ROAD & BERKELEY ROAD AND 250
<br />WATT FOR THE L ICHTS ON PATTERSON PASS ROAD.
<br />SIGNING AND STRIPING
<br />1. TRAFFIC SIGNS SHALL BE INSTALLED AT LOCATIONS SPECIFIED ON THE
<br />PLANS, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF CALTRANS TRAFFIC
<br />MANUAL, LATEST EDITION.
<br />2, PAVEMENT STRIPING SHALL INCLUDE STOP BARS, CENTERLINE STRIPING
<br />OR MARKERS, CROSSWALKS AND ALL OTHER MARKINGS REQUIRED BY THE
<br />COUNTY AND AS SHOWN ON THESE PLANS. STRIPING SHALL BE DONE WITH
<br />HOT APPLIED THERMOPLASTIC AND REFLECTIVE MARKERS CONFORMING TO
<br />THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 84 & 85 OF CAL TRANS SPECIFICATIONS.
<br />J. EXISTING STRIPING PROPOSED TO BE REMOVED SHALL BE DONE BY
<br />SANDBLASTING.
<br />4. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVING EXISTING STRIPING,
<br />MARKING OR LEGENDS AS NECESSARY PRIOR TO PLACING THE NEW STRIPING,
<br />MARK/NG AND LEGENDS AS SHOWN ON THE SIGNING AND STRIPING PLAN TO
<br />AVOID CONFL ICTS.
<br />EROSION CONTROL NOTES
<br />1. EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE EFFECTIVE FOR
<br />CONSTRUCTION DURING THE RA/NY SEASON (OCTOBER 1 TO APRIL 1).
<br />2. NO STORM RUNOFF WATER SHALL BE ALLOWED TO DRAIN DIRECTL Y INTO THE
<br />EXISTING UNDERGROUND STORM SYSTEM, THE CALIFORNIA AQUEDUCT OR THE
<br />DELTA MENDOTA CANAL BEFORE THE ONSITE STORM DRAIN SYSTEM IS
<br />INSTALLED.
<br />3. AS SOON AS IS PRACTICAL AFTER THE NEW STORM SYSTEM 1S INSTALLED,
<br />THE CATCH BASINS SHALL BE INSTALLED AND STRAW BALES SHALL BE
<br />PLACED AROUND THE CATCH BASINS.
<br />4. SHOULD THE PROPOSED ONSITE STORM SYSTEM NOT BE INSTALLED BY
<br />OCTOBER 1, TEMPORARY SEDIMENT BASINS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED AROUND
<br />THE OPEN/NGS OF ANY EXISTING STORM PIPES WHICH DRAIN THE SITE.
<br />5. THE NAME, ADDRESS AND 24 HOUR TELEPHONE NUAeER OF THE PERSON
<br />RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION
<br />CONTROL PLAN SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE COUNTY.
<br />6. ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE
<br />MAINTAINED UNTIL DISTURBED AREAS ARE STABILIZED. CHANGES TO THE
<br />EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL PLAN SHALL BE MADE TO MEET
<br />FIELD CONDITIONS, BUT ONLY WITH THE APPROVAL OF OR AT THE
<br />DIRECTION OF THE COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR.
<br />7. DURING THE RAINY SEASON SPECIFIED IN NOTE 1 ALL PAVED AREAS SHALL
<br />BE KEPT CLEAR OF EARTH MATERIALS AND DEBRIS. THE SITE SHALL BE
<br />MAINTAINED SO AS TO MINIMIZE SEDIMENT LADEN RUNOFF FROM ENTERING
<br />ANY STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM.
<br />8. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO INSPECT AND REPAIR
<br />ALL EROSION CONTROL FACILITIES AT THE END OF EACH WORK DAY DURING
<br />THE RAINY SEASON.
<br />9. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO PROTECT TEMPORARY
<br />BARROW AREAS AND/OR STOCKPILES WITH APPROPRIATE EROSION CONTROL
<br />MEASURES SATISFACTORY TO THE COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR.
<br />10. ALL EROSION CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE REMOVED AND DISPOSED OF BY
<br />THE CONTRACTOR UPON COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT.
<br />11. CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE MEASURES NECESSARY TO PROHIBIT NON -STORM
<br />WATER DISCHARGES FROM ENTERING THE STORM SYSTEM OR ADJACENT
<br />WATERWAY (I.E. CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT, WASHING OF STREETS AND
<br />STORAGE OF EXCESS MATERIALS).
