GENERAL NOTES
<br />1. ALL CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST EDITION

<br />2. FINAL PAVEMENT WORK SHALL NOT OCCUR WITHIN THE ROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY PRIOR TO
<br />COMPLETION OF UTILITY RELOCATION WITHOUT SPECIFIC APPROVAL OF THE DIRECTOR.
<br />3. CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME SOLE AND COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOB SITE
<br />CONDITIONS DURING THE COURSE OF CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT INCLUDING SAFETY FOR
<br />ALL PERSONS AND PROPERTY; THAT THIS REQUIREMENT SHALL APPLY CONTINUOUSLY AND
<br />NOT BE LIMITED TO NORMAL WORKING HOURS AND THAT CONTRACTOR SHALL DEFEND,
<br />INDEMNIFY, AND HOLD THE OWNERS, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY AND CARTER & BURGESS INC.
<br />HARMLESS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, REAL OR ALLEGED, IN CONNECTION WITH THE
<br />PERFORMANCE OF WORK ON THIS PROJECT.
<br />4. PRIOR TO PERFORMING ANY WORK WITHIN THE ROAD RIGHTS-OF-WAY OF EAST MAIN
<br />STREET, WAGNER AVENUE AND GUERNSEY AVENUE, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN AN
<br />ENCROACHMENT PERMIT FROM: SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS,
<br />BUILDING PERMIT FROM CITY OF STOCKTON, AND CITY OF STOCKTON PERMIT CENTER.
<br />5. A TRAFFIC CONTROL PLAN (TCP) SHALL BE PREPARED BY THE CONTRACTOR AND
<br />SUBMITTED TO AND DEEMED ACCEPTABLE BY THE COUNTY PRIOR TO START OF WORK. THIS
<br />SHALL ADDRESS ALL PHASES OF WORK WHICH WILL IMPACT PUBLIC TRAFFIC. CONFORMANCE
<br />WITH THE TCP SHALL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES. CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN AN
<br />AIRBORNE PERMIT FOR ANY GENERATOR USE.
<br />6. ALL TRAFFIC SIGNS AND MARKINGS SHOWN ON THE PLANS, SHALL CONFORM TO THE
<br />"MANUAL ON UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AND THE CALIFORNIA STATE SUPPLEMENT
<br />TO THE MUTCD, AND SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY STANDARDS".
<br />7, ANY CHANGES TO THE APPROVED IMPROVEMENT PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS MUST BE
<br />PREPARED AND CERTIFIED BY THE "CIVIL ENGINEER", AND SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE
<br />DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS AND CITY ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO IMPLEMENTATION.
<br />8. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY UNDERGROUND SERVICE ALERT (USA) 48 HOURS PRIOR TO
<br />ANY EXCAVATION BY CALLING THE TOLL-FREE NUMBER (800) 227-2600.
<br />9. WHENEVER PAVEMENT IS BROKEN OR CUT IN THE INSTALLATION OF THE WORK COVERED BY
<br />THE SPECIFICATIONS, THE PAVEMENT SHALL BE REPLACED AFTER PROPER BACKFILLING WITH
<br />PAVEMENT MATERIALS EQUAL TO OR BETTER THAN THE MATERIALS USED IN THE ORIGINAL
<br />PAVING.
<br />10. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE DUST CONTROL MEASURES AT ALL TIMES DURING
<br />CONSTRUCTION AS PER SECTION 10 OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS OF THE STATE OF
<br />CALIFORNIA AND PER SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS REQUIREMENTS.
<br />11. DRAINAGE FACILITIES SHALL BE MAINTAINED DURING PERIODS OF INCLEMENT WEATHER, AND
<br />RESTORED TO THEIR ORIGINAL CONDITIONS UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK.
<br />12. ALL TRAFFIC DELINEATION (SIGNS, STRIPING, PAVEMENT MARKINGS, RAISED PAVEMENT
<br />MARKERS) SHALL BE RESTORED TO THEIR ORIGINAL CONDITION UPON COMPLETION OF THE
<br />WORK.
<br />13. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY ALL UTILITY COMPANIES AFFECTED BY THE DEVELOPMENT
<br />PRIOR TO BEGINNING OF WORK.
<br />14. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL STREET NAMES WITH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
<br />DEPARTMENT BEFORE ORDERING STREET SIGNS.
<br />15. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROTECTION OF ALL EXISTING MONUMENTS
<br />AND/OR OTHER SURVEY MONUMENTS AND SHALL NOTIFY THE SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY SURVEYOR
<br />OF ANY DAMAGED OR REMOVED MONUMENTS WHETHER COUNTY, STATE OR FEDERAL.
<br />16. WHERE WORK IS BEING DONE IN AN OFFSITE EASEMENT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY
<br />THE PROPERTY OWNER 48 HOURS PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK.
<br />17. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONDUCT HIS OPERATION ENTIRELY OUTSIDE OF ANY NO GRADING
<br />AREA. THESE AREAS SHALL BE CLEARLY DELINEATED IN THE FIELD PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
<br />18. THE TYPES, LOCATIONS, SIZES AND DEPTHS OF EXISTING UNDERGROUND UTILITIES AS
<br />SHOWN ON THESE IMPROVEMENT PLANS WERE OBTAINED FROM SOURCES OF VARYING
<br />RELIABILITY. THE CONTRACTOR IS CAUTIONED THAT ONLY ACTUAL EXCAVATION WILL CONFIRM
<br />THE TYPES, EXTENT, SIZES, LOCATIONS, AND DEPTHS OF SUCH UNDERGROUND UTILITIES. A
<br />REASONABLE EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE TO LOCATE AND DELINEATE ALL KNOWN UNDERGROUND
<br />UTILITIES. HOWEVER CARTER & BURGESS CAN ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE
<br />COMPLETENESS OR ACCURACY OF ITS DELINEATION OF SUCH UNDERGROUND UTILITIES, NOR
<br />FOR THE EXISTENCE OF OTHER BURIED OBJECTS OR UTILITIES WHICH MAY BE ENCOUNTERED
<br />BUT ARE NOT SHOWN ON THESE PLANS.
<br />19. CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT, IN ACCORDANCE WITH GENERALLY ACCEPTED
<br />CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES, CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR WILL BE REQUIRED TO ASSUME SOLE
<br />AND COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOB SITE CONDITIONS DURING THE COURSE OF

<br />20. PRIOR TO ANY CORRECTIVE ACTION, BY ANY OF THE CITY, COUNTY, OR CONTRACTOR,
<br />WHICH IS NECESSARY DUE TO ALLEGED STAKING ERROR, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY
<br />CARTER BURGESS, INC. FOR RESTAKING AND VERIFICATION OF PREVIOUS STAKING. SHOULD
<br />ANY CORRECTIVE WORK BE DONE PRIOR TO NOTIFICATION, OR IF THE ORIGINAL STAKING IS
<br />DONE BY OTHERS, CARTER & BURGESS ASSUMES NO LIABILITIES FOR THE COSTS INCURRED
<br />FOR THIS WORK. WHERE IT IS DETERMINED THAT ANY CORRECTIVE ACTION WILL REQUIRE
<br />FINANCIAL PARTICIPATION BY CARTER & BURGESS, THAT AMOUNT SHALL BE AGREED TO IN
<br />WRITING PRIOR TO TAKING CORRECTIVE ACTION. FAILURE TO OBTAIN WRITTEN ACCEPTANCE
<br />FROM CARTER & BURGESS WILL NEGATE ALL REQUIREMENTS OF OUR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.
<br />21. CARTER & BURGESS HAS EXERCISED REASONABLE AND ACCEPTABLE STANDARD OF CARE
<br />IN PREPARATION OF THESE PLANS. HOWEVER, THE DESIGN PROCESS INCLUDES ACTIVITIES
<br />THAT OCCUR AFTER THE SIGNATURE. THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE CALCULATION, PLAN CHECK
<br />AND VERIFICATIONS DURING CONSTRUCTION. SHOULD PERSONS, OTHER THAN CARTER &
<br />BURGESS PERFORM THE CONSTRUCTION STAKING OPERATIONS, THEY SHALL INDEMNIFY CARTER
<br />& BURGESS FROM ANY DAMAGES RESULTING FROM FAILURE TO PERFORM THOSE TASKS OR
<br />ANY EXPENSE OR DAMAGE RESULTING FROM THE OMISSION OR ERROR CONTAINED IN THE
<br />PLANS WHICH WOULD REASONABLY HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED AND CORRECTED BY CARTER &

<br />22. WHEN THE WORK AREA IS ADJACENT TO A TRAFFIC LANE AND THERE IS A CUT, DITCH, OR
<br />TRENCH MORE THAN TWO INCHES DEEP, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN CONTINUOUS
<br />BARRICADES SPACED AT APPROXIMATELY 20 FOOT INTERVALS FOR THE FIRST 100 FEET FROM
<br />THE BEGINNING OF THE CUT, DITCH, OR TRENCH AND AT APPROXIMATELY 50 FOOT INTERVALS
<br />THERE AFTER. IF THE CUT, DITCH, OR TRENCH IS MORE THAN 10 FEET FROM A TRAFFIC
<br />LANE, THE BARRICADE SPACING MAY BE GREATER, BUT SHALL NOT EXCEED 200 FEET.
<br />23. CONTRACTOR TO EXPOSE VARIOUS LOCATIONS OF EXISTING WATER MAIN, SEWER, AND
<br />DRAIN LINES TO VERIFY LOCATION AND ELEVATION PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF PIPE. ALL
<br />EXCAVATION AND BACKFILL SHALL BE GRADED, RECOMPACTED. AND RESEALED PRIOR TO
<br />PAVING.
<br />24. EXISTING AC SURFACE SHALL BE CUT TO A NEAT STRAIGHT LINE PARALLEL WITH THE
<br />CENTERLINE AND THE EXPOSED EDGE SHALL BE TACKED WITH EMULSION PRIOR TO PAVING.
<br />THE EXPOSED BASE MATERIAL SHALL BE GRADED, RECOMPACTED, AND RESEALED PRIOR TO
<br />PAVING.
<br />25. ALL EXISTING SIGNING THAT CONFLICTS WITH PROPOSED SIGNING SHALL BE REMOVED AND
<br />RETURNED TO SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY TRAFFIC MAINTENANCE DIVISION AT 1810 E. HAZELTON
<br />AVE STOCKTON, CA.
<br />26. ALL EXISTING STRIPING AND MARKINGS THAT CONFLICT WITH PROPOSED STRIPING AND
<br />MARKINGS SHALL BE REMOVED BY WET SANDBLASTING OR GRINDING. PAVEMENT LEGENDS AND
<br />ARROWS THAT ARE REMOVED SHALL BE REMOVED IN A BLOCK PATTERN. ALL STRIPING AND
<br />MARKING REMOVAL AREAS SHALL BE TREATED WITH AN APPROVED PAVEMENT SEALER.
<br />27. ALL STRIPING AND MARKINGS SHALL BE REFLECTORIZED UNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED.
<br />28. ALL SIGNS SHALL HAVE HIGH INTENSITY REFLECTIVE SHEETING UNLESS OTHERWISE
<br />DIRECTED.
<br />29. ALL PERMANENT STRIPING AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS SHALL BE THERMOPLASTIC UNLESS
<br />OTHERWISE NOTED. YELLOW THERMOPLASTIC SHALL BE LEAD-FREE ORGANIC MATERIAL. CURB
<br />MARKINGS SHALL BE PAINT.
<br />30. NEW SIGNS SHALL BE INSTALLED ON STREET LIGHT POLES OR 2" SQUARE TUBULAR
<br />GALVANIZED STEEL POSTS WITH VANDAL -RESISTANT HARDWARE. THE POSTS SHALL BE
<br />INSTALLED PER SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY IMPROVEMENT STANDARDS.
<br />31. WHERE POSSIBLE, AT LEAST TWO FEET OF CLEARANCE SHOULD BE PROVIDED FROM CURB
<br />FACE TO EDGE OF SIGN.
<br />32. FOR EACH FIRE HYDRANT, A BLUE TWO-WAY REFLECTIVE MARKER SHALL BE PLACED ON
<br />THE STREET PAVEMENT 12" OFF OF STREET OR DRIVEWAY CENTERLINE ON THE HYDRANT SIDE.
<br />33, THE SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH THE
<br />CITY OF STOCKTON STANDARDS PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS ADOPTED NOVEMBER 2003, AND
<br />ALL AMENDMENTS THERETO TO DATE. ONLY THE SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM SHALL BE
