Chip seal must be placed in a single layer on existing or prepared asphalt concrete pavement <br />surface. No chip seal is allowed on Portland Cement Concrete surfaces including pavement, <br />rrilroad crossings, existing bridge decks, etc. <br />2. Aggregate must have fine gradation of i" maximum. <br />3. Two weeks prior to the start of work, the Contractor must furnish to the Engineer a schedule <br />showing proposed street closures on each half —day basis. No work will commence until this <br />schedule is approved by the Engineer. <br />4. All intersection radii within project limits must be sealed to existing edge of pavement, face of <br />dike or lip of curb and gutter. <br />5. Before chip seal is to be applied to any area, protect all utility covers, including, but not limited <br />to: maintenance holes, water valves and survey monument frames and covers. Remove protective <br />covers after chip seal. Full compensation for said work must be considered as included in the <br />contract unit price for various items of work and no separate payment will be made therefor. <br />6. Surface preparation work must be as directed by the Engineer. Locations and dimensions of <br />Pavement Repair will be determined by the Engineer and must be placed 18 hours prior to <br />placing chip seal. <br />7. Remove and dispose of all existing Thermoplastic Traffic Stripes and Pavement Markings in all <br />project areas. The Contractor is responsible for verifying the quantities within the Project's limits <br />of work. See sheet 10 and 11 for locations and quantities. <br />8. Perform street sweeping throughout the duration of the chip seal operations of the project per <br />the specifications. Full compensation for these sweeping operations must be considered as <br />included in the contract unit price paid for various items of work and no separate payment will <br />be made therefor. <br />Existing Roadway <br />SHOULDER DETAIL <br />Without Curb & Gutter <br />9. Unless school is not in session or otherwise approved by the Engineer, perform chip seal <br />operation on weekends for streets within close proximity to schools. The Contractor must not <br />begin chip sealing a street after 1:00 PM without the approval from the Engineer. <br />10. Place Monument Frame and Cover at various locations, see Summary of Quantities for locations <br />and quantities. <br />11. Areas in County right—of—way used for staging and/or storage of materials will be approved by <br />the Engineer. The areas utilized for staging and/or storage must be restored to their original <br />condition. Any damages or unclean conditions to staging or storage areas must be repaired at <br />the Contractor's own expense. It will be the Contractor's responsibility to obtain permission from <br />the property owner to stage equipment or store materials on private property. You must must <br />provide a letter of release from the property owner of the areas utilized for staging and/or <br />storage of materials. <br />12. Traffic delays due to construction operations must not exceed 10 minutes, or 4 mile of vehicle <br />queue, whichever occurs first. <br />13. High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) sections on Schulte Road and French Camp Road are not <br />to be chip sealed (See sheets 3, 4, and 6 for locations). <br />14. The Contractor must perform final roadway sweeping operations on all chip sealed roads fifteen <br />(15) working days after application.
