RECEIVED
MAR 8 1968
BOARD OF S11MVISORS
Editor Tracy Press»
Tracy, California
11arch 7, 1968.
Your editorial on TRACY BOULEVARD gave me a sinking feeling. Maybe
we should look into this a little more.
The new forth interstate By -Pass will have huge signs suspended
over the east and west approaches to the City, saying: "TRACY -
MXT THREE EXITS." The exits will be marked with the name of the
road. This will even comply with our Sign Ordinance; "Tot over
two signs to a business." What more effective signs can you get?
As to the three present names, what is the matter with the name
JEFFERSON? According to my old maps this road was there and named
before either Tracy Island or McKinley. It was named for the old
Jefferson School that used to be on it; founded as early as the,
18701s. Other north/south streets like Madison, Wilson, Lincoln,
and even McKinley were named to conform with the pattern establish-
ed by Jefferson Road;, to honor our Presidents.
Thomas Jefferson was our Thilyd President. Although he carve to be
knadn as "The Great Democrat" he was at times bath Republican
and Democrat. And lets not forget he wrote the Declaration of
Independence.
What's the matter with JEFFERSON all the gray from the Diablan Hills
north through Tracy to terminate at the intersection with the east/
went Lammers woad; the big curve near Whitehall.?
I would appreciate it if,you will publish these second -thoughts for
everyonets consideration, including our Supervisor Frank L. Hoyt.
Earle E. Williams
EMI/cc Frans L. Hoyt.'
Vice Mayor.
Filed
 AR 14196 ,19..__._
RALPH W.EPPERSN4-C
RK
QY
i
