<br />/. All groovle welds shall hove the root of the initial weld back gouged by either chipping
<br />or by air arc.
<br />2. Prior to joining flanges to the web, the web and flange plates shall be fabricated in lengths
<br />of least equal to the length of the girder to be fabricated.
<br />J. Welding to proceed continuously from one end of member to the other.
<br />4. Distortion limits for flat side of welded joints shall not deviate
<br />from flatness by more than -�/s in a length of 2 feet centered over Me Joint.
<br />5. Method of supporting girders while girder splices are being mode shall be shown

<br />6. Root openings shown are for manual shielded arc. Seol bead posses in %8" root openings
<br />with S MA W may be used prior to SA W or root openings may be zero with 4' root face

<br />/. Instal/ bolts, clamps, wedges, guy lines, struts or other suitable devices to hold girder
<br />sections in alignment and in such a monner as to allow normal shrinkoge movement
<br />In the girder splice weld.
<br />2. Preheat flanges 1211 in both directions from centerline of butt joint between 300 OF and 400° F.
<br />J. Weld girder flanges top and bottom complete maintaining preheat.
<br />4. Hold preheat of flanges to 200 ° F minimum. Preheat web plate for 6 v to 8 each side
<br />of centerline of the butt joint to a maximum of 2000
<br />F. Mointoin the preheat and
<br />weld web butt Joint. Sequence of web amove weld may be bock l- cascade or intermittent
<br />4 4 so as to balance the applied web heat to the heat of the flanges, thus minimizing the
<br />/2 /2 shrinkage stresses.
<br />5. After completion of web groove weld the remaining fillet welds between web and flanges
<br />' shall be completed.
