This condition is not a problem
at this time and is noted for future reference. The timber columns were probed with an ice pick and sounded to access their condition.
The bottom timber lagging at Abutment 7 between Piles 1 and 2 is starting to decay.
Defect is meant to capture the gap in the timber lagging at Abutment7 between Piles 1 and 2. The gap is 2 inches high and 5 feet in
length and is between the lowest and second lowest row of timber lagging. Refer to Photo 5.
There were no significant defects noted.
There are horizontal checks up to 9 feet long by 0.25 inch wide along the timber cap at Bents 2, 3 and 6. This condition is not a
problem at this time. Refer to 2018 BIR photo number 4. The location and size of these defects has not changed since that photo
was taken. The timber bent caps were probed with an ice pick and sounded to access their condition.
The following girders were replaced in 2019 with 3 inch x 15.25 inch timber beams:
Girder 1 (left exterior) in Spans 3, 6 and 7.
Girder 1 (right exterior) in Spans 1 through 4 (all the way from Abutment 1 to Bent 5) and in Span 7.
Girder 4 of Span 7 is supplemented by a 4 inch x 15.5 inch stringer.
The previously noted water infiltration through the AC on the deck has begun to cause decay in the timber planks and some timber
blockings. The AC has been repaired and the planking will continue to be monitored.
