The current
rating has been assigned in accordance with SMI procedures for concrete culverts. While
this report does not include a check of that analysis, it does verify that the structural
conditions observed during this inspection are consistent with those assumed in that
analysis.
ELEMENT INSPECTION RATINGS AND COMMENTARY
Elem Defect Defect Element Description
No. /Prot
241 Culvert -RC
1080 Delamination/Spall/Patched Area
1130 Cracking (RC and Other)
6000 Scour
Env Total Units Qty is each Condition State
Qty
St. 1
St. 2
St. 3
St. 4
2
39
m 21
17
1
0
2
1
0
0
1
0
2
10
0
10
0
0
Z
7
0
7
0
0
(241-1080)
There is a spall measuring approximately 12 inches long by 3 inches wide by 2 inches deep with no
exposed rebar located between the left wingwall and Abutment 5 interface (see Photo 4 from the BIR
dated 06/26/2018).
(241-1130)
The abutments, wingwalls and piers have 0.02 inch wide full -height vertical cracks spaced as close as
3 on center (see Photo 2 from the BIR dated 06/15/2016),
There are
a few random
0.02 inch wide horizontal cracks in the
face of Abutment 5.
(241-6000)
The right
side of the
invert is
exposed for the full length of
the structure. This issue has been
partially
addressed by
placing
riprap along the right side of
the invert along the length of the
culvert. The exposure
is up to
12 inches vertically in Spans 1
through 3, 42 inches at Pier 3 and 40
inches in
Span 4 (see
Photos 1
through 3 from the BIR dated 06/26/2018),
The footing for
the right wingwall at Abutment
5 is exposed up to 24
inches vertically and undermined
up to 12 inches
horizontally (see Photo 4). A
work recommendation is
included with this report to
finish the installation of slope protection in
the most severe areas.
The left
side of the invert is exposed up to
2 inches vertically with no observed
undermining
along
Spans 1,
2 and 4 of the culvert (see Photo 6
from the BIR dated 06/15/2016).
330
Railing -Metal
2 32 m 32
0 0
0
(330)
There were no
significant
defects
noted.
RecDate: 06/26/2018 EatCost: $1
Action Scour -Place Counterm StrTarget: 2 YEARS
Work By: LOCAL AGENCY DistTarget:
Status : PROPOSED EA:
Mitigate the scour along the upstream
invert and at the right wingwall at
Abutment 5.
