The inspection of all other elements <br />within the waterway is the responsibility of the ABME. <br />This structure was inspected using surface-supplied diving equipment and techniques. Diving operations were staged from the Caltrans <br />dive vessel "Scow" which was launched from the Paradise Point Marina. <br />This underwater inspection follows the procedures of Section 5.4 of the SM&I Inspection Procedures Manual. <br />SUBSTRUCTURE <br />All submerged surfaces were partially covered with a thin layer of light marine growth which can be easily removed with a gloved hand. <br />These conditions allowed for a 100% Level I inspection and a minimum od 10% Level II inspection of the submerged portions of the <br />elements. <br />For reference purposes, the distance from the water surface to the bottom of the West Girder, in Span 5, was 8.0 ft, at 1414 hrs, on the <br />day of this inspection. <br />The following depths were noted: <br />Bent 2: <br />Column 1: 2.0 feet <br />Column 4: 1.0 feet <br />Bent 3: <br />Column 1: 6.0 feet <br />Column 4: 5.5 feet <br />Bent 4: <br />Column 1: 9.0 feet <br />Column 4: 8.0 feet <br />CS 2 Scour Defect applied to this bent due to unbraced column lengths. <br />Bent 5: <br />Column 1: 9.5 feet <br />Column 4: 11.0 feet <br />Column 3 - CS2 Checking from above the WL to 3 feet below WL. <br />Column 4 - Check 1.0 inch deep extending 6.0 feet up from ML. <br />CS 2 scour defect applied to this bent due to unbraced column lengths. <br />Bent 6: <br />Column 1: 10.0 feet <br />Column 4: 10.0 feet <br />Column 2 - CS2 Check above the WL on the south face and a .50 inch wide X 1.0 inch deep Check on the NW face from WL to ML. <br />Column 3 - A .50 inch wide X 4.0 inches deep check on the south face extending to 3.0 feet below the WL. <br />CS 2 Scour Defect applied to this bent due to unbraced column lengths. <br />Bent 7: <br />Column 1: 10.0 feet <br />Column 4: 10.0 feet <br />Column 1 - Several areas of CS2 Checking, of up to 2.0 inches deep, with one extending several feet below WL. <br />Column 3 - Check up to 6.0 inches deep at the south face. <br />Column 4 - CS 2 check near the top of the column. <br />CS 2 scour defect applied to this bent due to unbraced column lengths. <br />Bent 8: <br />Column 1: 9.0 feet <br />Column 4: 9.0 feet <br />CS 2 scour defect applied to this bent due to unbraced column lengths. <br />Bent 9: <br />Column 1: 7.0 feet <br />Column 4: 7.0 feet <br />CS 2 scour defect applied to this bent due to unbraced column lengths. <br />Cross bracing was spilt/deteriorated at Column 9-4 (reference photo's 1 and 2). <br />Bent 10: <br />Column 1: 5.0 feet <br />INSPECTION COMMENTARY <br />CONDITION INFORMATION
