There are brackets installed at vertical members, bent cap, and
girders mitigating the abutment lean. This is most extreme on the rightmost side and decreases as it approaches towards the
centerline of Abutment 3. The Abutment 3 third vertical is not fully bearing and bears on 3.5 inches out of the original 6 inch member
depth. The right half of the bottom sill plate also appears to be angled downwards by 1 to 2 inches. Refer to Photos 5 though 7.
The second highest row of timber lagging in Abutment 1 is compromised. Both free hanging ends of the row of lagging are rotted
away completely with some erosion up to 2 feet into the soil behind the abutment lagging. The row of lagging between the piles is
split in half and warping up to 2 inches for the entire width of the abutment. The fourth and fifth board down in Bay 1 near Pile 1 is
cracked vertically and protruding outwards up to 3 inches. Refer to Photos 8 and 9.
The rightmost side of the bottom lagging at Abutment 3 is rotated. Refer to Photo 10.
The pile element is included to indicate the presence of piles on this structure. The piles were not exposed for visual inspection. No
indication of pile distress was noted in any substructure element.
There are non-continuous longitudinal checks/shakes with less than 10 percent penetration throughout the faces of the abutment
caps and bent cap.
There are a few scattered checks/shakes with less than 10 percent penetration throughout the face of the exterior timber girders.
