This includes large to medium size angular
RSP placed throughout the creek bed and embankment below the structure. There is grouted RSP around all the columns of Pier 2.
See Photo 1.
Previous scour was noted as follows:
The foundation pile below each of the Bent 2 columns is exposed due to scour. A steel collar was placed around each of these
columns and filled with loose rocks sometime between the 2011 and 2012 routine inspections. (See Photos 3 and 4 dated
10/09/2014). Prior to the placement of the steel collars, the exposure of the foundation piles was measured on 01/30/2011 as up to 24
inches. The rock-filled collars are no longer effective and the columns are exposed as noted below. It should be noted the change in
exposure is mostly due to the lack of stacked rock in the collars and not significant stream bed deterioration. A work recommendation
has been submitted to re-establish scour countermeasures at the bent. See Photo 4 dated 06/14/2020.
2014 2016 2018 2020
Column 1: 22 inches 15 inches 18 inches 24 inches
Column 2: 20 inches 20 inches 26 inches 22 inches
Column 3: 21 inches 23 inches 33 inches 36 inches
Column 4: 20 inches 21 inches 28 inches 28 inches
This quantity accounts for the new RSP placed throughout the creek bed in front of both abutments and around Pier 2. See Photos 1
to 3.
