Printed on:Thursday 06/06/2024 06:02 PM 29C0413/AAAO/124731Pageof4 <br />Department of Transportation - Division of Maintenance Structure Maintenance & Investigations <br />10 <br />UNDERWATER INVESTIGATION DETAILS - NOT APPLICABLE FOR THIS BRIDGE. <br />STEEL INVESTIGATION DETAILS <br />This structure qualifies for an in-depth Steel investigation because it possesses the following non-redundant steel tension members or <br />fatigue prone details : <br />NSTMI Required NSTMI Freq.Next NSTM InspectionYes24 01/12/2026 <br />Girder (Built-Up): NSTM with Category D Welds, Category E Welds, Out-of-plane Bending <br />SCOPE AND ACCESS <br />There was no water in the channel during the time of this inspection. A complete routine bridge inspection was performed. The girder <br />ends near Abutment 2 were inspected with the use of a ladder. <br />NON-REDUNDANT STEEL TENSION MEMBER INSPECTION <br />A hands-on inspection was performed on the tension areas of the steel girders of the left and right railroad car in accordance with the <br />Fracture Critical Member Inspection Plan dated 03/25/2010. No fractures or cracks were found in the bottom flanges of the main girders <br />of both railroad cars. The sizes of the various web cracks have not changed since they were first noted in 2003. <br />SUBSTRUCTURE <br />The embankment in front of Abutment 1 was scoured during a storm event in 02/10/2017. There is a scoured vertical face about 2 feet <br />high above the rock protection and the Abutment 1 bridge bearings are 4 to 6 feet away from the edge of the vertical cut. Additional rock <br />slope protection was added to this abutment since the last inspection. Refer to Photo 1. <br />Abutment 2 and the bridge bearings are also set back 5 feet from the concrete retaining wall in front of the abutment. <br />OPERATIONAL SIGNS <br />There are signs at both approaches which indicate: "Narrow Bridge" and "25 MPH". Refer to Photos 3 and 4. <br />WATERWAY <br />A Bridge Scour Evaluation - Plan of Action dated 8/16/2010 is on file. The Item 113 code, Scour Critical Bridges is U for this structure. <br />This bridge has an unknown foundation. <br />A channel cross section was spot checked during this inspection.
