Printed on:Friday 12/13/2024 02:38 PM 29C0415/AAAH/147521Pageof4 <br />Department of Transportation - Division of Maintenance Structure Maintenance & Investigations <br />9 <br />UNDERWATER INVESTIGATION DETAILS <br />STEEL INVESTIGATION DETAILS <br />This structure qualifies for an in-depth Steel investigation because it possesses the following non-redundant steel tension members <br />(NSTM) or fatigue prone details : <br />NSTMI Required NSTMI Freq.Next NSTM InspectionYes24 08/22/2026 <br />Other: NSTM <br />SCOPE AND ACCESS <br />The water in the channel measured over twenty feet during this bridge inspection. Bents 2 through 7 were submerged. The <br />superstructure and substructure elements located above the waterline were inspected from the waterline with the aid of binoculars. The <br />bridge deck was inspected by walking on and about the bridge. All visible elements were fully inspected. A complete routine inspection <br />was performed. <br />An Underwater Investigation was performed by the Caltrans Underwater Team on 05/15/2023. A brief summary of their findings is noted <br />below in the Element Table. See the 05/15/2023 Inspection Report for further details. <br />A Fracture Critical Investigation was performed on 08/25/2022 by the Caltrans Fracture Critical Inspection Team. The investigation was <br />conducted in accordance with the Fracture Critical Member Inspection Plan, dated 08/19/2020. See the 08/25/2022 Fracture Critical report <br />or the relevant elements for more information. <br />SAFE LOAD CAPACITY <br />The load rating for this structure is being reviewed by SM&I Ratings Branch under Work Request 9732. An updated Load Rating <br />Summary will be archived when this review is complete. The current rating has been temporarily assigned to this structure in accordance <br />with SM&I procedures. <br />OPERATIONAL SIGNS <br />"Stop Ahead" signs are posted on the bridge. "No Stopping Any Time" and "Stop" signs are posted at the approaches at the ends of the <br />bridge for both directions of traffic. See Photos 1 and 2. <br />"No Truck Turn Around" signs are posted along Bacon Island Road east of the bridge, and at the east approach to the bridge near <br />Abutment 8. See Photo 2. <br />The navigational water depth gages are visible near Span 4, on both sides of the bridge. <br /> <br />The navigational lights located on Span 4 at center of navigation channel, and on dolphins are present on both sides of the bridge.
