The water within the channel was turbid and
lighting was minimal.
The only National Bridge Inventory (NBI) Item reviewed was the Item 113 Code (Scour Critical Bridges). All other NBI codes and
elements ratings were carried over from the 4/25/2024 Routine Inspection Report.
ORIENTATION
The report follows (SM&I) convention and orients the bridge south to north. The south abutment is designated as Abutment 1.
HISTORY
As-builts are on file in Caltrans archives.
The only previous routine inspection was carried out on 4/25/2024. The previous report does not mention any scour issues.
REVISIONS
The National Bridge Inventory Item 113, "Scour Critical Bridges" has been changed from 6 to 5: "Bridge foundations determined to be
stable for assessed or calculated scour condition. Scour is determined to be within the limits of the footings or piles by assessment, by
calculations, or by installation of properly designed countermeasures".
WATERWAY
A channel cross section was taken and was compared to the previous cross section. There are no significant changes
SUBSTRUCTURE
Probing was conducted along the face of both abutments and within the center of the channel. Probing concluded that there is minimal
cover at the footings at both abutments. The abutments were not exposed, but the remaining cover could not be determined due to poor
visibility.
The probe was used within the channel and was able to penetrate up to 10 inches from the top of the footing before hitting solid material.
This solid material was noted throughout the entire channel. It is likely that the material is concrete, but findings are inconclusive due to
the low visibility and turbid water.
SCOUR CONSIDERATIONS
There is no footings exposed and the probing concluded that there is dense material within the channel. There are no previous scour
issues and none were present at time of this inspection.
INSPECTION COMMENTARY
- NOT APPLICABLE FOR THIS BRIDGE.
CONDITION INFORMATION
SPECIAL INSPECTION INFORMATION
