High water marks inside the culvert barrels indicated that the water in the channel can rise up to 2.0 to 2.5 feet in
depth during high flow conditions.
The length, parallel to the center of the roadway, was field measured at 20 feet-8 inches, which exceeded 20 feet.
The culvert is located next to a propane storage facility with issues of leaking propane gas. During the inspection we smelled propane
gas, less dense than air, which had settled down inside the ditch and inside the culvert barrels.
Garbage had accumulated inside all culvert barrels and in the channel.
All elements were visible. A complete routine bridge inspection was performed by walking on and about and partially inside the culvert
barrels.
NUMBERING CONVENTION
The forward direction of 99 West Frontage Road is from south to north. The beginning of the structure at Barrel 1 is located on the south
end of the culvert.
HISTORY
As-built plans for both Contract 59-10TC17 and Contract 10-128004 which were found in the historic records of the Caltrans Document
Retrieval System were sent to be archived in BIRIS.
99 West Frontage Road and the original portion of the culvert were constructed in 1958 as part of a larger State Contract 59-10TC17
which included Mariposa Road OC.
99 West Frontage Road widening and the widened portion of the culvert were constructed in 1968 under State Contract 10-128004.
Although constructed and widened under State contracts, 99 West Frontage Road, including the original and widened culvert, are located
outside of the State right of way.
DECK AND ROADWAY
There was no bridge identification visible.
SAFE LOAD CAPACITY
The load rating for this structure is being reviewed by SM&I Ratings Branch under Work Request 13540. An updated Load Rating
Summary will be archived when this review is complete. The current rating has been temporarily assigned to this structure in accordance
with SM&I procedures.
WATERWAY
Flows are from east to west.
