Smaller rock pockets are
located at the upstream and downstream noses of the piers. The most significant voids are located on the Span 2 side of Pier 2 near
the right side of the original structure. Based on a field comparison of Photos 10 through 16 from the 02/2019 report, this condition
has not changed.
The concrete from the widened portions of the abutments overlapped the abutments of the original abutments.
Minor to moderate abrasion is present throughout the abutment faces and wingwalls. Coarse aggregate is visible throughout the
abutments. The majority of the aggregate appeared to be sound but rock pockets have formed and encompass sections that are
typically up to 6 inch in diameter and are predominantly located at the corners of the bridge.
Based on a field comparison of Photos 17 through 26 from the 02/2019 report, this condition has not changed.
Element 256 accounts for the paved concrete at the corners of the abutments that was present on the embankments and at the base
of the widened portions of the abutments.
The concrete at the base of the original portions of the abutments did not warrant element 256.
Erosion was present above and behind the slope protection at the right side of Abutment 4.
At the top of the embankment, an erosion gulley approximately 5 feet in width x 2 feet in depth was present. Concrete sack protection
has been placed at the top of the concrete slope protection, but the concrete sacks appeared to be ineffective.
Near the base of the embankment, a void was present behind the slope protection. The size of the void could not be determined.
Due to the void a section of concrete approximately 6 feet x 5 feet has settled approximately 2 to 3 inches and shifted approximately
1 inch.
Based on a field comparison of Photos 26, 28 and 29 from the 02/2019 report, this condition has not changed.
